Dayyam straight.
Drop the provisionals and the top 35 in owners points.
These have become free rides to teams.Legal sand bagging is all this is.
The fastest 43 cars race.Yes there is a chance that a "star" would miss the race but it happens, every week a team goes home.
So drop provisionals, stop the top 35 and let the fastest 43 race.

So at Talladega, when Jeff Gordon wasn't in the Top 43 qualifiers, goes home, even while competing for the championship?
How many Nascar fans would protest against Nascar after that?
Remember the fans want to see the Top drivers / Past Champions race, and the $$$ those drivers bring in filling the seats. I could imagine the fans upset if Jr doesn't start the race. Same for the J. Gordon, Johnson and Stewart Fans.
I have yet to see my local news talk about the NHRA results, but will mention the Sunday Cup race.

As a long time fan, 40+ years, I agree that the fans deserve to see the fastest drivers out there.
Not the most popular drivers. If the race is based on popularity, why not have everyone vote. Then tally them up, most votes wins. Everyone goes home.
If the chase contenders don't qualify, tough tomatoes. Before the chase, what happened?
They only made the provisional starts back when Richard Petty missed qualifying to get him in the race.

I am not sure what you are talking about when you use the term provisional? It sounds like your talking about that idiotic top 35 but I have a feeling your not. Are you just raging on Jr.? Back in the day they had the past champion provisional. I don't realize this is what they called this joke of a kids game made up as they play.
Top 35 can't stand it it stupid.
Provisional for past champ I see nothing wrong with it.

There is one difference between NHRA qualifying and NASCAR that everyone seems to forget. In the NHRA, each team has multiple attempts to make the field each event, while in NASCAR its only one. The only way to make it fair if you eliminate provisionals is to have an additional session for qualifying in case a car that would easily start up front has a mechanical failure or a crash. If that happened in the NHRA, you'd still have another run to try to make it in. With the schedules for each NASCAR weekend being so tight, you'd have to eliminate the final practices and make every event and impound race to be able to hold multiple qualifying sessions at each track,

Actually, there really isn't a problem with the provisionals, it is the top-35 rule that is wreaking havok on the fields. If you get rid of the top-35 rule, the rest should sort itself out.

California and Michigan could desire to be eradicated or the tracks could desire to be ripped up and made a million/2 as huge, N Wilkesboro, merits a minimum of one race, Darlington, Las Vegas could desire to get a 2d race, Daytona's July race could desire to be a 600 mile race back. i might additionally want to make certain each race music that receives 2 races a 12 months, be at some point race and one night race. it would be cool to make certain a number of those tracks decrease than the lights furnishings.

It sounds good but if they went only on times the same people would race every week who race now.
Cars in the top 35 are the fastest cars. If they have to qualify they will and leave the same backmarkers to go home.
