Well lets see since I was stationed aboard the U.S.S.Nimitz CVN-68 n-ur asking what job would get u stationed aboard one any job that the Navy, has that you can go to school for does that answer your question you can also request to be stationed aboard a carrier when u fill out ur dream sheet that is the sheet they give u in boot camp before u graduate to pick three shore duties facilities u would like to be stationed at and and what type of ship you want to go to once ur shore duty is complete as long as there is a billet open so you have multiple choices to pick from three from each but they do try to give u ur first choice and if not than they go to the second choice and so forth get the idea.

Go the nuke route, because you'd stand a good chance of getting a carrier or at least a submarine.

However, the nuke program is one of the hardest to get into.

Honestly, you'll get used to hearing that it's up to the needs of the Navy, not you. However, if you keep an eye out for openings on carriers or other ships, you might be able to put in for those at the appropriate times.

MOST aviation ratings will guarantee you orders on a CV or LPH or LHD. There have been instances where an aviation sailor NEVER went to sea...few and far between. Even 'black shoe' ratings get carrier orders. I was a black shoe storekeeper and I spent my last 10 months on the USS Nimitz. The 'needed' my NEC but since I was not going to do a 42 month tour, I didn't get the position (financial supervisor) when I finally checked on board. I could have gone anyplace else but one type of ship I never wanted to be on, but that nimrod detailer of mine seemed to have fried too many brain cells to see it was a waste of the Navy's time to send me to a billet I wasn't going to be working in. Until then, I enjoyed the Navy. To be honest, I enjoyed my tour on the Nimitz, but I felt I could have been more useful elsewhere.
Sorry for the griping.
Good luck getting what you'd like to work in!

Any aviation rate, airdale. Any rate that works on aircraft as long as it has to do with aircraft that deploy on aircraft carriers. You will be assigned to a Navel air station as part of an air squadron. When the squadron deploys to a carrier so will you.

Aviation!! If you go in as an officer, you might want to speciallize in a particular type of carrier based aircraft. i.e. F/A-18, E2C, S-3, orC-2s. You could also go into the nuclear propulsion field.

any of the fixed wing aviation ratings... those are only deployed off of Carriers. Rotary can be deployed off of Cruisers and Destroyers. Any other rating has potential to be stationed aboard any sea going vessel, save FT(subs only.

Stay away from any of the Spec War, Seabee ratings.. they never get stationed aboard ships.. and CTI also is never PCS afloat.

Go into naval aviation you will spend about half of your enlistment on a carrier. It is a life style that takes a lot of getting use to.
