This is called acid reflux. It can occur from a flap valve at the top of the stomach that doens't work right, or from too much in the stomach when lying down. Avoid caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, and cigarettes, especially after about 6 PM. Don't overeat before bedtime. Raise the head of the bed about 30 degrees (not just your head with pillows). If these things don't work, see your doctor, as this is simple to treat but may have serious consequences if it goes on for years.

This is caused gastro-esophogeal reflux disease. It can be easily treated by medication, but it shouldn't be ignored because it can cause damage not only to your esophagus, but your lungs as well.
