That's a reconstruction from bones and DNA of a man who lived during the time of Jesus in that particular reigion. He looks Arabic.

It all has to do with art in history. It's been several years since I actually read/took the class for art history and appreciation, but we talked a lot about this. If I can actually find my notes from this I'll edit this (but don't hold your breathe).

The earliest known depiction of Jesus was actually several hundred years after his death. It looks NOTHING like the image most often thought of today. Sadly, I don't remember the artist's name who first created the image of Jesus that we see today. That was about a thousand years after Jesus lived. Still, during that era, most people did not know how to read and were not educated in the least. They saw that representation and took it more literal than they should have. It seemed to fit their ideals and beliefs at the time, and it just took hold from there. It snowballed, and people just took for granted that what they saw was an actual depiction with no thought to history or being true to the facts.

Plus the Shroud of Turin probably has a lot to do with why people associate that image with Jesus in today's culture.

Nobody knows what Jesus looked like, although the Catholic artists through history had a real crush on making him look all nice and girly with his long pretty hair and big eyes. Puh-leese. Jesus wouldn't have looked like that, not when God has so clearly stated that for a man to be effeminate like that is wrong and goes against nature. Jesus wouldn't do something that He declared to be wrong or against nature. And He wasn't a Nazarite - He never took a Nazarite vow! He was from Nazareth, He was a Nazarene. Big difference...

Nobody knows what Jesus looked like except the people who knew Him back then. About all we know is that His appearance was unremarkable - the Bible says that He was nothing special to look at, there was "no form or comeliness that we should desire him". He was just a plain regular-looking man. As a carpenter it's probably a safe bet that he had strong arms and shoulders and big rough hands from working with wood all day long...but who knows?

His appearance isn't terribly important....what He did is important!

A six pack?? That's funny! I saw a blond Jesus in a movie, and just could not watch...but my DH watched a movie with a Jesus character that had piercing blue eyes, and he thought that made it even more compelling...I don't, know...God can reach people in different ways.

Really awful??? Are you kidding me? Those people in the Middle East are beautiful....

There isn't much doubt that Jesus looked exactly like the Jewish people. He was a Jew.

Because they are viewing him based on people in this country, not his native country. And further more, he DIDN'T have long hair. The Bible stated it is a shame for a man to have long hair. It goes on and on about distinction between the sexes. It says a woman should have long hair. So, why on earth would Jesus be portrayed as a long haired hippie is beyond me. It goes against the very word of God. HELLO!!!!

Because that's how people in the Renaissance pictured him: looking similar to Western Europeans. They painted him that way, and that's the iconic image we've all come to recognize as Jesus.

If Jesus existed, I can't imagine he looked ANYTHING like those depictions.

Most peple don't draw Jesus with blue eyes and blond hair. Everybody else is smart enough to know that he was Arabic, and therefore dark skinned with dark hair. Everybody but you.
