Do I have peace in my heart right now?

I mean my dog of 11 years died in my arms (my only child) and then a short time later on 10-18-2007 my mom just died as I held her hand.

Last year I would of had no hope, maybe even wanted to kill myself, I would be drunk and angry and crying and lost without these two in my life.

Yet somehow I have this peace in my heart that I can't (or no one else) understand.

Where does this peace come from? It's not from me I was a very angry mad at the world person and loved them both very much. They were my everything and I lost them!

Give me an answer that makes since, how do I have peace right now , I just lost my mother?

Here is my answer ,

but I am interested in yours. I hope this at least makes you pause for a second and wonder, if anything.... because the peace I have right now has no earthly logical explantion.

OK , I have heard from the NON's (which oddly enough there seems to be more of on here , isn't that strange?

Now could I hear from believers and we all can compare notes? Saying, "it's all in my mind" just isn't gonna cut it, sorry... I am 40 years old and have seen LOTS of death, LOTS of it but prior to accepting CHRIST I never NEVER had this peace, same mind back then that I have now so the logic doesn't fit. Let's here from some Christ followers, thanks for all the condolences from both sides though, it is nice and helps.

I am a born again Believer and my mom was licensed and ordained and is in heaven. My entire family is mourning and broken hearted and yet I have this peace, was just trying to see how everyone felt about it from both sides. So much fighting on here and life is so short.

You are asking for proof of a negative. Essentially you are saying "prove Jesus is not in my heart."
I am not a Christian, but why would I want to try to destroy the peace you have found? One could call it Zen, or Nirvana... you choose to call it Jesus.
Whatever else it is, it is a level or maturity and pragmatism that no one should try to take from you by attempting to convince you Jesus is wrong.
Shame on you for asking.

The Catholic Encyclopedia states Bible is Skeptic and Concocted
A. THE FORMATION OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CANON (A.D. 100-220)
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/03274a.htm
The idea of a complete and clear-cut canon of the New Testament existing from the beginning, that is from Apostolic times, has no foundation in history. The Canon of the New Testament, like that of the Old, is the result of a development, of a process at once stimulated by disputes with doubters, both within and without the Church, and retarded by certain obscurities and natural hesitations, and which did not reach its final term until the dogmatic definition of the Tridentine Council. ("Canon of the New Testament")
There is a lot of confusion about the earliest existing texts of the Bible. The oldest extant manuscript of the Bible is believed to be the Codex Vaticanus, (preserved in the Vatican Library), which is slightly older than the Codex Sinaiticus (preserved in the British Library), both of which were transcribed in the fourth century.
As for the story of Jesus, there were at least 50 gospels written in the first and second century CE. Four of them (Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John) were included in the official canon during the fourth century CE and are found today in every Bible. All of the original copies of the gospels were lost. What we have now are handwritten copies, which are an unknown number of replications removed from the originals.
Rudolf Bultmann, a prominent 20th-century professor of New Testament studies writes about the life of Jesus:
We can now know almost nothing concerning the life and personality of Jesus, since the early Christian sources show no interest in either, are moreover fragmentary and often legendary; and other sources about Jesus do not exist. (Bultmann 8)

About a year ago, I miscarried a much wanted pregnancy that we had been trying for forever. I literally held my own baby in my hands. It was a devastating experience and a crushing loss, one that I sincerely hope I never repeat (it was actually my second miscarriage).

Is it difficult? Absolutely. Would I wish it on anyone? Never.

Am I at peace with it? I believe I am. I am at peace knowing that it was nothing more than biology, that it was part of no one's "plan", that there was no "lesson"...it just IS. Just as I'm sure you are not thrilled at what you have lost, you feel at peace.

In contrast, I was still a believer when I had my first miscarriage. I was angry for a long time afterward, wondering what I had done to deserve it, wondering why me, wondering what f*cked up god would put anyone through that, etc. I became an atheist sometime later (not as a result of the miscarriage), and eventually found myself at peace with my first loss. When the second one occurred, it was a much more difficult ordeal emotionally, but even from the beginning there was a sense of peace unlike what I experienced with the first.

Where you've found peace in Christ, I've found peace as an atheist.

I am truly sorry to hear about your losses, and I'm glad to know that you have found peace.

The peace doesn't mean that it's God helping you. I wanted to believe that when I lost my pet. Trust me, it makes you feel better thinking that someone is out there guiding you. I lost my pet also, and was depressed for a really long time. I felt peace because I was beginning to stop grieving. I also found peace believing in the rainbow bridge. A place were all deceased pets go.

Sorry for your loss.

first: sorry for your losses.

the peace you feel in your heart (assuming it is real and you are not a troll) is a very wonderful thing. You equate it with Jesus, and I fully support you in this experience.

But spirituality is a very subjective matter. Someone else could just as eaily have a similar experience with Amateratsu, Horus, Athena, or any number of gods. Each of their experiences would be just as true to them as yours is to you - and for the athesits who say it is a brain-made placebo, that is just as correct - for them. To each their own.

To me, the only "fiction" on this issue would be if someone suggested there is only one true spirituality; that would be a sad blasphemy indeed.

having the ability to cope well with tragic losses in life does not prove the existance of jesus. it proves that you have a belief in a higher power. The mind is very powerful. If you truly believe in something it can seem very realy and even have physical effects on you but that doesn't make it real. Your mind can make you sick and it can also heal you. You've proven nothing but the power of the mind.

like all the great teachers in history Jesus' teaching was compared to them as a way to spiritual growth and direction to the light and universal consciousness. Jesus gave a message of Love which there is no opposition to or can be compared to anything else. Its that love you can peace in, jesus as a savior I dont beieve is a accurate term He is more as a great teacher to me.

It sounds like you have had a tough few years.

Please consider reading "When Bad Things Happen to Good People" by Harold K kushner.
I think it will help you see things more clearly.

Good luck to you.

Tranquillisers - or heroin - would also give you good feelings in times of crisis, but you'd hardly claim they hid the secret of the universe.

You can't base your grasp on reality on your feelings. Reality is not subjective. Our brains are not able to deal intuitively with many of the core aspects of the fabric of reality, and we have to go with what the math tells us. We can't even conceptualise a century.

Luk 9:60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
