My 20 yo furbaby has cancer and has gone into kidney failure. He's going downhill and I don't want him to suffer any longer. He hisses, spits, bites and in general throws a fit anytime we go to his vet. I know this is necessary but I don't want his last breath drawn with anger and stress...only my love... What can I do for him?

Call and ask you're vet if he will make a house-call. If not, then ask him if he will prescribe a sedative that you can give him at home ahead of time, so that you will be able to take him to the vet to perform the euthanasia without your pet being so stressed out.

First off I am very sorry about your kitty. I know how difficult this is for you. First I would call my vet and tell them your situation. Hopefully he will come out to the house, and let you make payments on the bill. For some vets it's not all about the money but it's about the animals. If you already owe them then what's a little more? I'm sure if it's a good vet they will help you out. If that turns out not to be an option, then there is nothing wrong with turning her over to the humane society. Don't feel guilty about it. That's what they are there for. You are doing what you can to make his passing easier. However the downside is you can't have the cat back to bury him. I wish I had better advice. My sympathy is with you. Good luck and best wishes.

Take him to the vet and have him euthanized or see if there's a mobile vet that will come to you. If your cat is truly dying them I highly doubt he'll have the energy to hiss and spit at the vet. And he's probably in a great deal of pain. Let him die in peace not with pain.

Sorry about your kitty. 20 is a long, long life - you've obviously been a great cat owner! Kidney disease is horrible. This past weekend I lost a 4 year old Persian to it :( They can have PKD - polycystic kidney disease - which shows up much earlier in life than normal kidney disease.

Call around to vet offices and ask if there is one that will make a house call. Another option might be if you know a doctor or nurse and found a vet who would sell you the shot for that doctor or nurse to give the cat. I know of a vet who gave a nurse the shot to give his own dog at home since he was a nurse and knew what he was doing with the shot. I'm very sorry for your loss. I know it's an awfully difficult decision to make and loss to face.

Get out your phone book and start calling vets in your area. Explain the situation to them. You may have to pay an additional home visit charge- but it would be worth it. I am so sorry you have to make this decision, but, I think it is so thoughtful and caring of you to want to make your cat's last moments as trauma free as possible.

You can have a vet come to your home to euthanize the cat there so it will not have to go through the trauma of the vets office. You should be able to call a "housecall vet" in your local phone book or on the internet, or call your regular vet to see if they can do it for you.

Check around to see if you have a vet in your area that will do house calls. It may cost a bit more, but it sounds like it will be worth it.
My heart goes out to you, I had to put a dog and a cat down this summer...

Yr doctor might be able to help you. If you don't want to go that way and want to DIY then a lot of sleeping tablets with milk will put her to into a never ending sleep painlessly. Synchronously I am looking after a dog which is painfully ill with cancer but have to wait for her owner to do what must be done for her.

I'm so sorry... i know how you feel. it's hard to have to put a loved pet to sleep. i also understand that you want him to be happy when he's leaving, so i would talk to your vet about it.ask them if they would be willing to do a house call for you. tell them the circumstances and im sure they will understand. be strong... hope i can help.

There are many vets that I'm sure would be more than happy to make a house call. Look in the phone book, and for now try to make him and comfy as possible. I'm sorry.
