No you can't. You need a hub that accepts a disk. It's easier to buy the whole wheel built.

It depends on a lot of stuff. Some bikes are sold with V's but are disc ready. This means that the frame has the place to screw the rear caliper, and the fork also has place to put the callipers. Also, the hubs are different. Some bikes come with disc-ready rotors even if the bike is V's. Specialized is a brand that comes to mind on this, at least on some models.

If your wheels don't have the right hubs, it might mean somewhere between 100 bucks to whatever much you want to spend just in new wheels.

If the frame doesn't have the disc tabs at the rear, you won't be able to put a rear disc brake. Some companies might sell some adapters, but I wouldn't trust them too much.

If it's a nice bike and it's disc ready, then it's a worthwhile addition. But if your bike isn't disc ready and you must change wheels, then it will cost you probably as much as your bike originally did.

if your fork has disc brake mounts and you will also need disc wheels/hubs. if you have these parts, then you will be able to change. good luck
