why should i buy a playstation 3 instead of a wii and xbox 360? and if i do buy a ps3 then what version should i get. i have about 10 ps2 games so backwards compatibly doesn't really matter.

If backwards compatibility is not an issue for you then the obvious answer is 40gb PS3. All they took out from it is BC, memory card reader and 2 USB ports, which i think was a good cut worth of 100 bucks off. So get that, and if the memory is not enough then u can get a 100gb hard drive on eBay for like 80 bucks. As for PS3 vs. Xbox 360, I'll take a supposed lack of games, and inferior yet free online service over a 33% chance at failure any day!

I have all 3 systems and the best bet is the PS3. It has way more potential than the other 2 and has the lowest chance of being a faulty machine. The Wii is cool for about the first week you have it, then its just boring. Also, the games for the Wii lack any kind of graphics compared to the other 2 systems. Xbox 360 has just about met its full capabilty and has a 33% fallout rate for the red ring of death. The PS3 is just now starting to have games that utilize its cell processor, which makes games look and run great. PS3 is True HD for the games and upscales movies and older Playstaion games up to HD. The Xbox 360 uses upscale even for the Xbox 360 games. PS3 is the way to go. Also, people will tell you not to buy PS3 because of the lack of games, but by the end of the year, game selection will not be a problem. Buy it for what it can do, not for what is does today.

Get the PS3. I wouldn't even consider a Wii because the games are too childish for me, and the Xbox 360 has too much hardware failure.

If you do get a PS3 I think you should get the 60GB PS3 or 80GB PS3 because they are backward compatible. Even though you said that backwards compatibility isn't an issue, you only have about 10 PS2 games and there are a lot of other PS2 games that you should play.

Also, after looking at your avatar name: Kratos 2009, I'm assuming that you're a fan of God of War. I read in this months EGM magazine that God of War 3 is scheduled to be released in late 2008 and if you want to get your hands on that game, you'll have to own a PS3. And plus, there are so many awesome PS3 exclusives coming out between now and 2008.

Get the 60 gig---Reasons for ps3 vs 360 and wii well it's up to you--

THe 360 game console has halo series but halo 3 is like playing halo 2 with better graphics and is much shorter of a game because all 360 games are on 8 gig dvds so not much room for gaming when you have to have space for larger hd graphics files. Bioshock and mass effectare nice games as well---

Ps3 computer entertainment center has games that are produced on 50gig blueray disc so they have room for both the hd graphics and larger games. Ratchet and clank tools of destruction the 1st level alone is over 1.6 gig. Most games for the ps3 take more than 20 to 30 gig of the bluray disc space and gtaIV is supposed to just about fill the whole 50gig disc while the 360 version will have to be on multiple discs.

For an investment in a game system that will be around for at least 7 to ten years go with the ps3 it's more versital. THe xbox 360 has already maxed out it's potential and will be revised again by 2009.

If your option is
A. 1 PS3 or
B. 1 Xbox 360 and 1 Wii

You'd be a fool not to go with B! Just the fact that 2 is better than 1 tells us that.

But seriously the PS3 has some cool features but the Wii has the unique gameplay, web browers, and great group gameplay and the Xbox 360 brings the HD along with tons of great top titles.

If you're a fanboy of a series that will only be available on the PS3 then that might swing you... but ... the choice is yours.

ps3 is the best system out of them 3
- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player

-ps3 supports 1.3 HDMI which has rich colors and xbox supports 1.2 HDMI

- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)

- because of the blu-ray's huge space, ps3 will have WAY better graphics than 360

- online is free for ps3 not like 360

- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring

- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it

- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)

- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p

- built in Wi-Fi

- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)

- ps3 has better back-comp except the 40gb

- rumble returns in spring 2008

- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)

those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this

Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $499 with motorstorm
40gb: $399 with spiderman 3 blu-ray
xbox 360(premium)- $399
(elite)- $479
if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars, so that means ps3 is actually cheaper

if you dont care about the back-comp then get the 40gb but if you want to play those ps2 games then get the 80gb

NTSC 60GB PS3 is the best, because it has best backwards compatibility with PS2 games. Here is why:

This is my cut and paste answer. The reason for that is because a tech info is a tech info, you can't beat it.

PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn't even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs (Rockstar complained about this issue). Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.

Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:

A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%.

PS3 has 8 (7+1) kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual layer DVD-9 (8.5GB). It's possible to get HD-DVD (max. - 30GB) for 360, but it'll cost you around 180$, in this case Xbox is going to be MUCH more expensive, than PS3.
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in 4 slots card reader (except 20GB and 40GB versions), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $

Graphics are stronger in PS3, due to RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. To estimate its power (roughly) - take 6800 Ultra nvidia graphics card, multiply it by 2 - get a result, still PS3 stronger, because 6800 Ultra runs on 400 Mhz and RSX runs on 550 Mhz. However, it's difficult to compare, because 360 has a video chip with totally different structure and operating memory is divided differently in both consoles.

PS3 uses technology from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This thing is on sale for PC(special card). The price is around 350$. There is no such thing in 360.

Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 12 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it. That's why in some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

In 2008 PS3 will get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4, The Agent and other great exclusives. Here is the good link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......

PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.

There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.

The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console. Biggest games weigh only 25 GB (Xbox 360 will need more than 3 discs even for those).

On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.

PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.

Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. Soon there is going to be cheaper 40GB version of PS3.

Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.

PS3 controller (sixaxis) has a motion control - you move controller - game responds. Wii has it, Xbox 360 - doesn't. PS3 controller is getting vibrocontroller soon (Dualshock 3).

On PS3 you can help sick people by running Folding Home project. Wii and Xbox 360 didn't even think about it.

New 40GB is coming with a lower prive between around 400$ and 400 euros (depends on the region).

I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it. Leave it for kindergarten and casual games.
