Can anyone tell me what kind of pellet they would reccommend to kill a raccoon at 10-20 yards with a RWS 48 (.22). I am going to test out the pellets to see which one works well with the gun by buying the pellet sampler from SS but I also want to just buy one tin of pellets to shoot around with also. If someone here owns or owned a 48 in .22 and can help me from personal experience I would appreciate that as well.

Is it possible to kill a raccoon with a powerful .22 air rifle, yes, is it the wise thing to attempt, IMO no.

25yds should be the absolute maximum range even for an expert. The numbers (fpe) say it's possible, I still don't think it wise.

An RWS sample pack to see which your 48 prefers is a good place to start. The 48 seems to perform best with 14.3gr-14.5gr pellets. I would seriously take a look at these three, and hope that my rifle took to one like a duck to water.
JSB Express 14.3gr
Crosman Premier 14.3gr
RWS Superpoint 14.5gr

I have been hunting/shooting air guns for over 45 years and on a good day with my "sporter" air rifle(.177) I can put 10 shots through one ragged hole at 10 meters. And, 3 shot groups at 40yds that I can cover with a dime(sometimes), a quarter usually. I would not want to "have" to take a shot like that at an angry cornered/treed raccoon.

BTW, it's my rifle, the FWB 124D that I credit. This is the most accurate & well made "sporter" air rifle that I know of. The rifle is rated at .06 c-t-c - One of the Feinwerkbau Olympic match grade rifles is .04 c-t-c. The best I know of from any other sporter is .15 c-t-c

IMO a nice semi-auto .22 LR is the way to go.

Good luck, your health insurance is paid up, right :))

You'd be better off using the stock of the gun. Seriously, raccoons are tough and will attack. Don't shoot them with a pellet gun. You will provoke something you don't want. Shoot them with a .22 WMR or something more powerful.

Survey says, confident it may. ok... Now that it quite is out of my gadget. it is going to kill the raccoon provided you place your shot precise (in an important areal such simply by fact the middle/lung hollow area). even with the undeniable fact that on condition that raccoon are great animals you will possibly be lots extra proper off utilising a .22 (or greater) airgun on condition that they are lots extra possibly to get sufficient penetration.

Forget about it.* Very bad idea.* You are not using the proper firearm for taking raccoons humanely.* The least caliber for that purpose you need to be using is a 22 long rifle Rimfire Rifle or Pistol.*

.177 cal pellet knocks em dead with my experience. but if its a raccoon you will have to shoot it in the head a few times cause a pellet gun wont take a raccoon out very easily.

All you are gonna do is make it mad. My brother had a coon in his attic, so he shot it with a pellet gun, which just resulted in making it mad at him. If you wanna kill it, use a .22.

Thats cruel cuz you wont kill it let alone eat it and the poor critter will be running around slowly dying of lead poisoning.
You should take the gun and turn it on your own eyeballs. and stop being cruel to animals.
Just think odf the pain he will be in .
