OK so I'm going to get my first tat but i need to make sure I'm not allergic to any of the inks, so my artist said i should first get a patch test to see.
my question is after thats done and if i am allergic to one of the inks what do i do.
i can't take benedryl so what should i do if the patch test gives me a allergic reaction?

if you are allergic to the ink, your body will reject it. if your artist is going to preform an allergy test (never heard of such a thing being done), then he/she needs to inject a small amount of ink under your skin. the most common allergy is to red ink, so if you are prone to body mod rejections (piercings, tattoos, etc), then that's the first color I'd try. if your body rejects the ink, then you don't get a tattoo. simple as that. there is nothing that you can TAKE to reduce the allergy. your body is trying to rid itself of the foreign object (the ink). in doing so, it pushes the ink out of your skin, sometimes leaving faded parts to the tattoo or scars.

You can't be allergic to something you have never been exposed to before so a patch test before your tattoo is a waste of time.

People become allergic to their tattoos months down the road - many times it is the color red and even then so, it is extremely rare. Most are precipitated by a lot of sun exposure and clears up with treatment.
