Doctors do NOT push either one. If there are many pregnancies, especially in a very young woman,; then they might 'suggest' a method of birth control. For tubal ligation..a woman who believes she has completed her family, may opt for that procedure.
If a woman should lose a child, but has not undergone a tubal ligation, & has been using birth control pills, all that's needed to become pregnant is to cease using the pills.
Doctors will never pressure their patients into anything. If a patient does feel pressured, they should look for another Doctor.

You talk as if the doctor has the only say in matters. No one forces the woman to go under surgery or take medication!

A woman needs to understand the risks and benefits (that's called informed consent) before deciding to undergo surgery.

If a woman age 25 wants tubal ligation, then she'll have to balance that with whether or not she will lose her child (god forbid). There isn't forced sterilization in the U.S.

I've been in healthcare over 30 years. The best time to speak to a woman about birthcontrol is right after they have a baby...makes sense, right? Most of the time, it is not insisted, just information given so a good individual decision can be made. But after years of seeing poor outcomes from unwanted pregnancies (and unwanted and abused and neglected children) it makes you very wise to the reality of life. Sometimes it's difficult to not interject personal beliefs in certain situations. Even if the person themselves does not see how the birth of another child would not be a great outcome, we do understand that it is not our decision to make.....and to tell you the truth, after so much heartache, you just put it in the hands of God because if you don't you burn out. I give information, encouragement....and pray at night.
