Brushing your cat on a daily basis helps a lot. Also if you get your cat used it, they will love it. It's like getting a daily massage. Other than that there isn't much that can be done. If you haven't bought the cat yet, I would suggest picking a breed that doesn't shed as much (usually short hair cats are better about this). Or you could even get a cat that doesn't shed at all (the Sphinx cat has no fur). Hope this helps! :)

one way u can reduce shedding is giving them a good healthy diet and comb them down. i dont kno of any cat that doesnt shed besides the hairless breed. i have a lot of cats that r of the same breed, and some shed more than others, some dont even shed. what ive found with cats is the shinier and softer the hair is, the less hair they will loose. the shorter haired cats the loose less hair than long haired cats.

There are breeds of cat that don't have fur (Sphinx or Rex). They are kinda goofy looking but sweet kitties. You also have many options when it comes to grooming. A brush I recommend is called the furminator and it gets alot of the undercoat out and lessens shedding. You can also try supplements such as shed stop.

Shedding is the natural process of the cat's coat. What you need to do is groom them regularly - even the shorthaired cats. To really get out the dead hairs of the undercoat get yourself a steel-toothed comb - not a brush. You'll be amazed at how much dead hair you'll get out! And the more you comb, the less and less hair you'll get out. Once you get the initial dead hairs out comb a shorthaired cat at least once a week and a longhaired at least every other day.

FYI - Lauren V - "Tabby" is a colour - not a breed or type of cat.

All animals will shed somewhat... A good healthy diet is key too.

If a short haired cat, when it starts to shed use a shedding comb to remove the dead hair to keep it from collecting on you and your furniture...
