When we earnestly seek God and ask him to forgive us, he does. It happens the moment we repent and accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.
Afterwards, we continue to get things wrong and constantly need to ask for forgiveness. Remember the Lord's Prayer? "Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us". The message Jesus taught was that as we forgive others, so our Father in heaven will forgive us. When we became Christians, God threw away the book with all our sins recorded. We started afresh. Yet we continue to sin, and continue to need to repent of them.
However, to repent does not merely mean to be sorry. It actually means to try to stop doing it! Lord knows I've tried and failed on many occasions. We will never succeed in our own strength. We need to lay our burdens down at the foot of the cross and ask Jesus to intervene. He knows our hearts, our motives, and he will never let us down. We must learn to rely on him. I'm still learning.
Be of good cheer, my friend. None of us are perfect but God's forgiveness is much greater than we could ever imagine. Please don't beat yourself up and feel riddled with guilt - that just gets in the way of our relationship with God. Put your faith and your trust in God and then allow him to take care of it.

I think it is important to see what the Bible has to say. Hebrews 10:26-31 would be some good scriptures for you to ponder over. Hebrews 10:26 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV) says: "If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,"
We all make mistakes from time to time, but true repentance means that we try not to make the same mistakes, it is manifested by deeds, not just words.

Yes. Repentance is a process that leads to a changed heart; sometimes a life long process with lots of mistakes along the way. He's not going to refuse to forgive someone who just took a while getting through the process.

Yes He would forgive, us off our sin; He said it in His words, and he is not a liar, He can't lie. If, we confess our sins, He is Faithful and Just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all un- righteousness. No matter !!?? What any one tells you. God is a forgiving Father; Because He created us and He knows every-thing about His people, Jesus Him self says that the Spirit , is Willing but our Flesh is soo weak, and man/women were conceived and born in sin, . It's the Nature of man to sin, and each time it happens we just need to go to the Father and tell Him all about it, Aren't you glad that is no one like Him, that you can confess your sins to Him and that He will wash all of your sins away and put them in the Sea of Forgetfulness, to never remember our sins any more, !!??What a Mighty God we serve, Isaiah 10;27;; It shall come to pass , in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the Anointing oil... Keep that Living Water in you always , that means that you believe, the Lord as the Scriptures, says. And each time you fall get back up and, rejoice, and keep on rejoicing. until Jesus comes,,,,, take care, and be bless in His Name.

A just god would understand why you commit the action. A merciful god would forgive you.
The forgiveness you seek will come from making a true intention of change that will lead to a true change.

God forgiveness is for all with a sincere heart. Often we still slip into old habits. Only way to get rid of them is to allow God to intercede for us and to allow Him to help us to not do them again. So we need to learn to trust Him to help us to not continue to sin. Conviction when we do wrong can be seen as a blessing. For it is the Holy Spirit working in us to convict us of sin so we can get rid of it. Learning not to do something is like a child learning not to misbehave. A child still misbehaves but the parent still loves the child.

I believe that God is our Father. I believe that He made us in His image. I do not believe that He made us to be Him, or to be better than Him.
If God is our Father, and we are His children, could He be less of a parent than we are? As parents, we forgive our children for transgressions hundreds and maybe thousands of times, until they get it right, are we then better parents than God?
I think that God can and will forgive us for our transgressions, however many times it takes.
He wants us to share everlasting life with Him in heaven, and He is willing to let us come to Him in whatever way we can until we get it right.
