Why are all paintings of Jesus depicting a man with blue eyes, blondish hair, and light skin when people from the area that he was from had darker skin, dark hair, and dark eyes?

Just wondering.

Peace.

Michael

The "modern" depiction of Jesus was done by a thirteenth century Italian painter who used an Italian man as his model. Twenty years later he used the same man to paint a picture of the devil.

You are looking at a very limited collection is all that I can say. I can't remember ever seeing a blond haired Jesus. I'm not saying they don't exist. Many of the paintings we have need to be taken in context of when and where they were painted. Sure, we have a lot more resources at our finger tips. But in earlier ages, it wasn't so. So they painted him in the image of their surroundings. You see this done all over the world. So you can find an oriental Jesus to a Black Jesus, which also expresses his universality as Savior to all.

Not ALL. When did you last read anything published by Jehovah's Witnesses? The pictures of Jesus there are much more realistic.

There is no description of Christ in the Bible He is in the eyes of the beholder He looked like every one else and blended in. But He probably had Olive toned skin and dark hair,as every one around Him had .. But today if Your Brown, Black, Red ,Yellow or White then that's how you perceive Him , as you fit in with Him
