Limiting factors in ponds include:
1. Ice that is too thick and stays too long in the winter - especially over a shallow pond. Depletes the oxygen in the pond.
2. Chemicals that run off into the pond from surrounding fields, golf courses, etc. Aren't diluted as much because of the smaller volume of water.
3. Introduced species added to the pond by well-meaning individuals - upset the balance in the pond.
4. Disease, parasites, new predators, overfishing, ...
