I've never smoked and if I had my way, cigarettes would just disappear off the face of the earth. But-2 of my children still smoke and they're a little too old for me to boss around. I think people should have the right to smoke in public. I'm glad they stopped it in restaurants because I didnt like the smell while I was eating. Everyone I know that smokes goes outside when they light up. This is fine with me.

I am an ex-smoker. I don't like smoking, I wish everybody who smoked would quit. A friend of mine was just diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, and I wish to God she had quit 20 years ago. But...this is supposed to be a free country. That means people are, or should be, free to make their own mistakes. So let em smoke in public if they want. Obviously there are some reservations: a ballpark is public but you shouldn't be able to light up in the stands right next to other people, just make it reasonable so that people who do not want to inhale smoke will have their rights protected but so millions of people will not be overburdened with even more laws. The country has really forgotten that it is supposed to be FREE. Let Freedom Reign!

I agree and disagree, if they want to smoke in public then fine, but just do it in areas that are desired, kind of like when you go out to eat, you have the smoking and non smoking areas. I Don't like it, I hate the smell of smoke, I grew up with my dad smoke in my face for 15 years of my life, and I think its god awful. But I have no right to tell people they can't. But personally I don't like it.

I agree. I shouldn't have to inhale someone else's smoke. If I wanted to smoke, I'd smoke. Also, my son has extremely severe asthma that is aggravated by, among many other things, cigarette smoke! I hate walking into a store and having to pass a group of people smoking five feet from the door!

I understand people should be able to smoke if they want to. Just do it in your car, not where other people have to breathe in your smoke!

Disagree... Inside public buildings I can understand the ban, but outside is just that, outside. It's the best place to smoke in regards to respecting non-smokers.

Edit: I am a smoker, I live in NY. We are not allowed to smoke in bars or restaurants, and I'm OK with that. I don't smoke in my house because my wife doesn't smoke, and I have a child. So I smoke outside. It's easy enough to stay away from people, and the smoke disapates much quicker than it does indoors.

I agree because I am allergic to cigarette smoke. When I go to public areas I often have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get to the doors of the place I'm going. This irritates my lungs and makes me prone to sinus and eye infections. I'm sorry that people have gotten addicted to cigarettes, and I realize they're very hard to give up, but I don't see why MY health should be endangered for their addiction.

I believe the determination of whether or not to smoke in a public area should be left to the discretion of the owner of that public area, and not governed by any governmental entity.

I think it should be banned from any indoor establishment (mall, restaurants, office buildings, etc.) except for pubs/bars. I think people should be allowed to smoke outside whereever they want, but I think whoever owns the establishment should have enough sense to put the ashtrays at least several feet away from entrances. I smoke, but I usually stand far away from the door/entrance to a building simply because if I were a non-smoker, I wouldn't want to walk past someone's cloud of smoke. There's no reason why owners of businesses/buildings should put the ashtray RIGHT outside the door...

depends on the public place. I'm a smoker and I like having a smokers section at resturants. I like to smoke while I take a walk. But I don't smoke in rooms that have children or elderly people in them. Just trying to be curtious there. But I don't like the idea of my right to smoke being banned.

SMOKING should NOT be allowed anywhere , period . Have you seen the lungs of a smoker ? It"s all BLACK covered with nicotine and the other toxins that go with it . Since most of a smoker's air sac die and suffocate ,they end up having emphysema and is on OXYGEN supplement FOREVER . And I'm not even going to discuss 2nd HAND SMOKE , which is the WORST you can do to your LOVE ONES.
