I told them I was going out to buy a CD, but actually I was on my way to another state. When they found my note, and rang me, screaming abuse, I was several hundred kilometers away.

My parents were rather abusive, and that is why I left the way I did. I don't regret it, but I don't recommend others try it unless
they a.) are afraid for their safely because of abuse and b.) have some where to run away to.

They still call me trying to convince me to "come home" but my home is not with them any more.

Jeff it was many years ago that I left the nest. At the time I know that mom felt both nervous and relieved at the same time. She was nervous that I would not manage myself very well and get into trouble. She was relieved because the police wouldn't be knocking on her door telling her that I had gotten into trouble again. But she continued to be my support system after I moved out and would often send over a care package for me to have something to eat. Ha! God this question makes me feel so old. Ha!

My dad said, "I didn't think you would do this." My mother spent the day slamming cubbards and sniffling. I went to college, and then when I tried to come home they wouldn't let me. LOL So I had to grow up. Now I'm 48 years old and own my own business!

Very well, it was TIME to go. Don't let them do this to you if that's what going on!!! There is no bigger mistake a young person can make than to stay at home longer than is naturally necessary.

my mother cried. my dad wanted to cry. and my brothers who were still at home only wanted to know "who gets her room". i'm the only girl (aside from my older sister who we just found out about this year) and i have 5 brothers. so i have always been mommy's pumpkin and daddy's princess. so they were devistated..... even though i was only a 10 minute drive from them..... they missed having me at home every night.
