Military Police personnel face combat risks as much as the Infantry grunt. They maintain order in populated cities enduring terrorist activities--just like Bagdad. They are also employed to guard sensitive communications and special intelligence sites used by the military. Such missions to keep tight security for these activities are crucial because the commanders in the field rely upon such to make their decisions.

It is usual for the average MP to carry a pistol and the M-16 in such duties.

They a lot actually, maybe not as much as an infantry guy, but they get there share of attacks. They are mainly task to secure american bases, and they act as convoy escorts.
Most MP's are ared with an M16 or an M4 along with an M9 pistol. Their gun trucks can be armed with an M249SAW, M240G or a 50 cal.

lately i dont think mps see that much action. they mostly deal with car bombs and the like. they also have to keep insurgents from attacking their bases and protect the people in the place surrounding them. the do patrols in hum vees and asv's. they also train iraqi police. Their primary weapon now is the m4 i believe. although they still use m16s.
