We have a keg at the bar/grille that has been chilled and untapped since August of this year. We want to use it at our Halloween party tonight, but I was wondering if it is stale/dangerous to drink. It hasn't been tapped at all, and it's been chilled since we had it. Is it okay?

I always lived by the 30-day untapped rule if it's chilled, 48hr if it's tapped.

Here's a more intense guide for ya:

As long as it has been kept on ice or in a fridge and it hasn't been tapped it's fine. You can keep a keg in a resturant cooler for up to 4 months before it goes bad.

P.S. The way one should store wine and beer is completely different

Yeah... most places will not stock beer past 6-months of brew date... Most beer companies feel that the beer should be consumed within the first 4 months after brew date.

It shouldn't be dangerous... but it might be stale. Try it.

I found all of this out because the Base Exchange in turkey was selling beer that was over a year old... I have never drank American beer since, unless I am in America of course.

Beer does spoil. bottles, cans, kegs, it doesn't change the beer itself. Modern beers last quite long, so you might be okay. I wouldn't be supprised if there's an expiry date on the keg, so check that first.

Depends on the type of beer. Lagers usually are best when they are fresh. Ales actually age better with time. Stouts and barleywines are best after a couple months, even years for barleywines. My guess if its budweiser, its time to pour it down the drain. If its Sierra Nevada, toast it till you tip over.

yes it will, since your supposed to keep beer cold at all time to keep that cool taste (most ppl like their beer cold), beer in kegs is hard to keep at a low temp because they are so big and probably have no place to put it, unless u finish a whole before it get room temp lol

it should be okay if its just from august. It also depends on the beer.

I doesn't seem wrong to me. Just think, wine has to sit for years before it's ready to drink. Maybe that will help...?
