It's possible that it is a test to see who can determine the reality that if a god exists it must be evil (because this would be needed to determine who can actually find the truth which is a key part of morality).

Don't Christian depise Darwin and misquote him saying something about the "Survival of the Fittest"?

Isn't this misunderstood quote a paraphrase of "Test of the Best"?

Our reward for our tests is becoming more Christ-like (sanctification).
Our eternal life in Heaven is a gift not a reward for any actions of ours.

We can choose. We have the ability to be most constructive in this very moment. No matter if you´re religious or not, being constructive in the moment is to be preferrred.
