My cat is long haired. He has these black dots and a few fleas on his back. I put a flea and tick remover spray on him, and the black dots are gone BUT, now there are red spots on his back and it looks like it's hurting him! He also keeps drooling. Please reply only if this has happened to you. I don't want "guesses" I want answers! I'm honestly not trying to be rude, please help!

Got to agree with the other answer, he is having an allergic reaction, get to vets now, also try not to let him lick himself.
He will ingest the spray and make himself sicker.
Vet will give him something to neutralize the spray.
best of luck.

The black specks are flea dirts (poos). Yes the spray has probably washed these off, but it's unlikely to have actually killed the fleas. Store-bought medication does NOT work and is often dangerous. I'm assuming the spray was from a store - Frontline spray is the only decent (i.e safe and effective) flea spray.

I don't often recommend bathing a cat, but if this spray was from a store then I'm saying, bath the cat to get it off. Then get a proper flea treatment from a vets - you have to wait 48 hours after bathing before applying a spot-on though, or it won't work.

Just to note, most 'answers' on here ARE guesses, because there are no vets on here - only people guessing. Best to direct questions at a vet.

I don't know of any flea/tick "spray" that is ok to apply to pets (usually they're for the house). Did the thing say it was safe to apply onto the cat? Was it a product called frontline or revolutio or advantage? Those are safe to apply and if a cat licks it it tastes bad so they can drool. If the product was not meant to be applied to the animal itself I would take him to the vet ASAP because it could be toxic. The red bumps mean irritation- either from the product or he has a flea allergy. This could mean he also needs to go to the vet for possible meds to help his irritation (such as steroids) but an exam is the best thing to start with.

Get him to the vet NOW. There have been several incidents of cats who are allergic to flea remedies, especially Bio-Spot.
