Chester is 14 years and is in good shape, and still the protects his territory in our yard, but lately have taken up to sitting in the wet grass and the concrete patio table. We have always said that Chester has more common sense that most people, but we are worried that his new habits might be harmful to him

Sorry I said 12 years old, he is 14 years old. He was born in our back yard and he adopted us.

He's a cat, they basically do whatever they want so sitting on the grass is not anything out of the norm and on the table too he probably likes the view he can have up there to watch over his territory. I don't see how his new habits would be harmful, the grass may be wet but getting a little wet never hurt anyone or any cat as well as sitting on the concrete table it's not going to harm him in any way, if he is uncomfortable he will not stay there then.

Sounds perfectly normal to me..what is wrong with a cat sitting in wet grass and on a table???!! Not sure I understand what is so odd about that.

It's interesting to note that the cat born in our backyard adopted you!
Though cats are said to have a long life, ageing does have impact on movement and so it is not a surprise what your cat has started doing lately!

Maybe he's just tired and plops down whereever he finds himself.

It won't hurt him.
