I believe in God. I trust Jesus.

I do NOT believe in or trust the Bible or the Church.
The Bible, which says we should kill our babies, that women should be stoned to death for looking lustfully on another... and the worst... women shall submit to their husbands.

It's a good thing not all women did that.... the women that are CEO's of healthcare companies, the women who founded "Feed the Children" programs... they went out and made something of themselves and saved so so many people.

You can't tell me God is unhappy with that.

And so I'm sick and tired of the Church and Bible telling me that I have to be a housewife and obey my husband... when God is telling me that I'm destined for much, much more.

Well people still quote the old testament for anti-women, anti-gay quotes. UGH! the Bible was written by imperfect people, not God! They have no more right than you or i to pass judgement.

ladies don't you just love how fiesty the men get about this? i think someone feels a bit intimidated by so many women recognizing their own worth. Women gave LIFE to all of the men who are putting them down. Haha, nice.

Totally agree with you. I believe in God and trust Jesus as well. The rest does not make any sense, especially Christianity's views towards women.

If I may be so bold hon, your taking it the wrong way. People read certain parts of the Bible and think it's what God said when in fact it's a custom of the time. I've read nowhere in the Bible where it says we should kill babies. As for the stoning of adulterous women again, that was a custom of the time. And it says women submit to your husbands not to be slaves but simply to respect them as the head of the household. God wants everyone to do great and mighty things. Mary Magdalene was the first one to leave the tomb and go preaching that Jesus was alive. God uses women the same as he does men. If your church tells you that you HAVE to be a housewife you might wanna change churches! Because I agree....you are destined for much, much more and greater things!

You have to remember the bible was written by man (inspired or not - it was still written by man). Much of the bible is HISTORY. Much of the bible is in the CONTEXT of the TIMES.

You have to also understand that things get misinterpreted, taken out of proportion - as much as women are supposed to respect men SO ARE MEN SUPPOSED TO RESPECT WOMEN. Fundamentalists tend to leave this out. People (male preachers????) stress one and not the other. Go listen to some women preachers. (First women preacher - women at the well)...Read up on it.

We are supposed to love one another, and above all else is love.

Spirituality comes from within. It's all about Love. God is Love. Love covers all wrongs. Listen to your Heart. As long as you love, and respect others, don't worry about the rest. It'll all fall into place.

couldn't agree with you more.
If i had followed that part of the bible, i would be married with kids already like some of my Christian friends. I'm only 20. But the fact is that the bible was written by men, and it has men's sexist ideas in it. Women are equal, not men's property. I'm sure god wouldn't have really said that.

The new testament AGREES with the old testament in that regard.

Wow have you got it wrong, or more appropriately, someone has not taken the time to properly educate you on what the Bible says.
Lets start with women submitting. Nothing close to what you are referring to her is mentioned in the Bible. For starters, notice in Ephesians, when Paul mentions this, that woman have merely one paragraph on how they are to act as Christians. Then read on to the several pages that outline/define the men's role. Women are not to be slaves, and if you knew your christian history, you would quickly understand that as the early church encouraged and preached equality of the sexes. In fact, Paul was greatful to a rich business woman for her generosity to the forming church. This equality was essentially erased by the Roman Catholic Church when it became instituted as the Religion of the Empire.
The use of submitt here has little comprehension in our modern reign of thought, but clearly would have been understood by the early Church cause the common theme then was to submit yourselves to God. Here the word is used as a guideline for woman to understand that they will never be held accountable for the sins of their family, the husband will. Death was brought into the world not because of Eve, though the early church used this as an excuse to persecute women, but it was Adam. This is why Jesus was born blameless, becuase Joseph had no part in His creation.
So the Bible does not treat women as second class citizens, in any way. In addition, you mixed some Old Testament and New together. Adultery was punishable to both parties involved. With Jesus' entry into the fold, these old laws have been fulfilled and therefore do not apply under the same conditions as before. That being said, and I being a Christian, discussing them is a mute point.
For a Godly family to be functioning, the Husband MUST adhere to the guidelines established as his ROLE before God, as outlined in Ephesians. Moreover, if he operates accordingly, than the woman does not feel like a slave. And no where does it mention that a woman's role is in the home...no where. So be a CEO, or what have you. Just understand that no matter how hard you try, you will not be held accountable for the salvation of your family...this will fall on your husbands shoulders. If you are in a unevenly yoked relationship, than this is where you put your faith and trust on God for deliverence, becuase you have a role to play in that as well. God Bless, and I hope this helps.

if the intent of your post is merely to vent, than maintain the integrity to state that, rather than dubiously opening this up for conjecture to a helping public while coyfully waiting in ambush for any who should stray along and render an opinion. We get it now, you are broken and bruised. We get it now, you have no interest in listening only screaming. No harm no foul. Scream on. When you want to engage in an discussion about this, then try again.

If you don't believe or trust the Bible, then just WHAT god and Jesus do you believe in? Our knowledge of God and Jesus comes from the Bible! Or have you fashioned another god and Jesus, made in your own image and likeness?

Consider Job, a man with praises from God. He accepted both blessings and adversity from God, knowing that all will work toward good.
Job 2:10 -- But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

well said! i agree with you! also, the bible was written by men! no woman had a hand in it, i find it very hard to believe that everything in the bible was "divinely" inspired- such as the examples that you cited! i find it offensive almost that a God as wonderful as ours could be so poorly misrepresented.

Oh, yeah, you're real bright, aren't you Sunset?
So, you believe in God, and Jesus, but not Christianity or the very basis of everything we know about Christianity and Jesus.
Look, you're not bright enough to make anything of yourself, and you probably should just be a housewife. Any woman with the talent, skill, and strength necessary to make something of herself would've immediately identified that if the Bible is thrown out, then so is Christ, and that Judeo-Christian version of God, and would have become, at best Atheist, at worst, agnostic. So, no, Sunset. I can't say that this revelation was even worth reading. Sorry if my confrontational and degrading tone bothers you, by the way, I've just found that in this situation, it's the surest path to getting the truth of the situation across.

Are you saying that you are a Christian? If so do you believe that Jesus Christ is God, that he resurrected from the dead (and is therefore alive today) and was born of a virgin (indicating his sinless nature). Also do you believe Romans 8:9; '... however, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.’

Many of those who quote Eph. 5:22 to put their women down forget to continue reading to verse 25, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;" It isn't a hard or burdensome thing to submit to someone who puts put with rebellion and would die to save you anyway... but most "christian" men fail to live up to their half while demanding their wives live up to the other.

The problem is with church tradition... and misogynistic hypocrites.
