Huston Smith wrote a wonderful book called The Religions of Man, about seven of the world's major religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. It's a easy read, and a great place to start looking at the various ways we humans undertake facing the divine.

The tradition I come from suggests that the proper attitude to take is to "be quick to see where religious people are right." I find this to be very helpful. It cuts down on tedious arguments, and is more likely to bring out the best in the other person.

That said, human religions remind me of the story of the 4 blind men trying to define the elephant. The first took hold of the tail, the second found an ear, the third happened to grab the trunk and the fourth stumbled onto the leg.

"Its a rope!" "Its' a leaf!" "It's a snake!" "It's a tree!"

Who was correct?

I do not think any one religion is absolutely the correct one. I feel that we have to take parts from each one, and put them all together. Perhaps we do not understand all there is to know, and this way, by comparing all of them, we will have a better idea of what is right and what is wrong.

I also say, look to the holy books of each religion, and not to just the religion itself. The religion is from man, and religion can be selfish, greedy, and corrupt.

Someone said that Islam is the only religion that teaches peace; but as far as I know, Christianity is the only religion that teaches: "Love your enemy."

So, they both have worthy points to consider.

This is a pretty pointless question unless you're trying to start an argument. Most believers in a chosen religion believe theirs is the correct one. I'm a born again Christian and I know that my way is the right way. However, that doesn't mean the a Orthodox Jew or faithful Buddhist doesn't believe the exact same way about their faith.

Only one can be the true religion of God. Since there are so many religions, how do you choose the correct one? You can't, it would only be luck. The fact that there are so many interpretations leads credence to the idea that there is no God.

God does not care what religion you are, just that you believe in Jesus, that he died for your sins and was risen from the dead (Romans 10:9). So actually, no religion is the "correct" one. Read your Bible.

Since ALL of them maintain that THEY'RE right and that everyone else is wrong, they CANNOT all be right. They could all be wrong however, and I think they are.
