the problem is only two countries (the UK and US) are willing to do anything major. Afghanistan is a case in point the UK and US provide the vast majority of combat troops and equipment yet other key members provide very little i.e. Germany provides a fare few non-combat troops and France, well we know all about their fighting record. they provide practically nothing despite being a permanent member of the UN security council and NATO. there are only a few countries capable of putting troops overseas and even fewer willing to. Its not about to collapse it just needs reordering whereby countries are complied to help out in NATO missions. i have long thought that, although this will never happen, that continental Europe should hand over its defence budget to the UK and then we'll sort it all out for them as they clearly can't.

Not at all. In fact NATO is growing still between the Partnership for Peace program and Mediteranian Dialogue programs.

NATO often fills the roles that UN cannont or will not fill.

No, it will remain just as insignificant as it always has where conflict is concerned. But I will give credit to bringing attention to countries that need immediate aid. I personally wish we would stop funding the whole thing and move it to either Palestine or Israel to give them a fresh approach to real problems.

Sorry I was thinking of the UN. My bad.
