Help!!! How can I come off narcotic meds..(Morphine 60mg.. 2 times a day). For the last 5 or 6 years, I have been on one thing or another when it comes to meds for pain..This is bad. I can't afford to get them anymore and I need to know of an easier way. You see, this is all "cold turkey", and I have the shakes and feel nervous and crying alot... If you can help give me some advice.... please do...God Bless you ahead of time, Dana

Slowly Dana slowly. Decrease the dose by half a tablet if possible. In other words if you take 20mg twice a day try and see if you can take 35mg (say 20mg in the morning and 15mgs in the evening). However, in the event the pill is only available in 10mgs then you would have to reduce your dosage from 40 mgs per day to 30mgs per day (20mgs in morning and 10mgs in evening.) It can take up to 4-6 weeks to back down off the narcotic meds you are regularly taking so please be prepared for a long journey.

Dana, I speak from experience as I presently am taking heavy narcotic medications daily in order to live with chronic pain, FM/MP, and the pain in my RT Shoulder/Neck I sustained from a work injury back in the spring of this year.

However, Dana always seek the advice of a certified Medical Doctor regardless of what myself or anyone tell you. Remember, no one knows you better than yourself Dana so sit down and talk about this with your Family Doctor. If you don’t have a regular Family Doctor……seek out a Walk-In Clinic or a Drug Abuse Center.

Thinking of you Dana and wishing you the BEST.

you never come off of them cold turkey. You ween yourself off. You also need to be under the care of a doctor.
