I was on the tube last week and gave my seat to a heavily pregnant lady.. I don't think she was expecting it. Got lots of thanks!

I do all the time and so do my kids, if the person is old frail, pregnant, disbaled or there is someone who looks absolutely knackered and they could do with a sit down.
I do it because I find it polite. I would like to think that someone would do it for me if I ever needed it.
If someone is in a worse situation than you, then why wouldn't you offer them a seat?
Manners cost nothing. I have taught my kids to give up their seat if someone needs it more than them. But I have met many parents with their kids who have refused a frail old person or a heavily pregnant woman a seat, the parents excuse! my kids paid for a ticket on this bus so therefore they get to sit down. Rude

Absolutely.

Why ? I was raised that way, and I don't want my Mother coming out of the grave and boxing my EARS !!

A gentleman should yield his seat to ANY woman and all folks who are elderly or infirm.

A gentleman should ALSO politely point this out to little teenage punks (or punkettes) who chose to occupy the "elderly/disabled" reserved seats, and if they fail to move, said gentleman should resort to his Naval Officer voice and direct them to remove their worthless, ungrateful, god-less little BUTTS from the seats before I put my size 13's UP their backsides.

I often give up my seat for the elderly and pregnant women, because its courteous.

Yes, an elderly couple. They looked a bit tired/winded, and I was taught to respect my elders.

I've also done it for people with young children and those who at least appear to be pregnant (as I was for the aforementioned incident).

Yes i have. As i work on the busses i find it more natural to stand up in them than sit down, plus when an person is helpless it gives me the oppertunity to speak with the driver.

Yeah, sure, whenever somebody seems like they might find it unpleasant to be standing for whatever reason - carrying a lot of stuff, injury, disability, advanced age, hugely pregnant, babies and toddlers in tow, whatever....

Regularly. The only thing puts me off is on the tube when I stand up for a women/lady and they say 'No thanks' leaving me standing looking like a dork. Ladies, if I stand for you, please accept my seat. Thank you.
