My friends hub came home drunk, beat her up and then smashed his son , a teenager, in the head with a shovel, choked him and tried to hit him in the head with a weight from a weight bench. He got arrested on several assault charges and due to his criminal drinking history...on top of jail he is now in a rehab. He was the sole read winner as a self employed contractor. After jail he is now in a rehab. Mom stayed at home with kids. She is now getting divorced and working 2 jobs and cant even pay most of the bills. He is court ordered to go to rehab for up to 9 months and its a lock up one...
Figure this, she just got a court order to appear in court to pay for his rehab and spousal support !

Go to the court as order,
howvere during the session, appeal to the magistrate
about how he have mislead the family and abuse the family and also all the bills and also the child's expenses. sharing about how he have not take care of the family and mianly she can't afford for it and they're in the process of divorce. sharing that she faces financial issues.. this will help and appeal as much as possible. best employs a laywer from the family court. cheaper and reliable. the past police reports or even bills could be use as a good apeal source and also try to take legal actions against him.

meanwhile when the guy do all the abuse to the child ,
they should have report it as attempt murder and this will actually have a greater impact however this woman have to harden her heart or nothing will work out..
appeal is important. rmb this..

When she goes to court, her attorney that is handling the divorce proceedings should be able to get this cleared up. When the court issued the order for her to pay, they probably werent aware of all the circumstances but it can be taken care of at the hearing. Sometimes domestic violence agencies have attorneys who will work pro bono for victims. She needs to contact a local agency to see how they can help her.

At this time, they are married. Unfortunately, debt is joint debt. However, her attorney CAN petition the court to have their debts separated, but do not know if they can retro it for the rehab.

This is an injustice and hopefully, they can separate the debts now. If not, they will likely be able to in the final decree of divorce.

gcb...I continually talk about taking one's own responsibilities and not blaming or laying burdens on others due to your choices...BUT YOU...WOW! You are right, taxpayers should not share in this burden, but neither should the victim. The GUILTY SHOULD. IN OTHERWORDS...let the jerk pay for his own rehab. You sound like liberal who blames Burger King for making people fat. Blame the wife for making the husband a psychotic alcoholic.

I can't believe this assault came as a complete shock from an otherwise warm and loving character.
She has really screwed up her life in the decisions she has made... While she may be a "victim" she certainly did a lot to get to this point.
Should we pay for his rehab?

properly, my uncle in south dakota used to try this with a water hose, yet he did not hit them in the top with a shovel although. i think of that that's relaxing to spray water in the hollow and seein if he comes out.

i would consult with an attorney. there has to be a legal aid department for people with small or no income in her area. none the less, talk to the district attorney that prosecuted the assault case. maybe they can find resources she can use to help her fight this non sense.

She is still married to him. Unfortunately, that means his debts are hers. This debt should be listed in the divorce and the judge will likely move it into his column.

What state do you live in? I've never heard of such a thing. She needs to get an attorney fast.
