I don't think it is immoral, if done appropriately and in private. It's something that can be easily addictive, as well, which is not healthy. Most people that live healthy lifestyles also masturbate on occasion. Why would God give us the physical capabilities to experience pleasure, if we weren't supposed to feel it? Whoever said pleasure is a sin, obviosuly never had an orgasm. I think why "religion" shies away from masturbation, is it's almost like a "gateway drug" that leads to other "bigger and BADDER" things... lol...

Technically it is not.
Public masturbation is rude and often against the law.
The idea that masturbation is a sin is spread from it being frowned upon and discouraged in the bible, but also embarrassing to talk about.
ADD: There are many times in the bible where they used a euphemism for a certain type of sexual act. Since the writers were not explicit about what happened, many people now have to argue and guess about about what was originally meant and how bad it was.
Noah's son "saw his nakedness" possibly means means he was staring at his mom (Noah's wife) or maybe even having incestuous sex with her and may have nothing to do with Noah's drunken body at all.
In Sodom the angry mob wanted to "know" the strangers "yada, yada". Translators assume that it "yada, yada" means that they wanted to have gay sex with them, but the word "yada" does not always mean sex.

There is nothing in the Bible about it. The one passage where it is mentioned the "sin" is the man refusing to give his wife a child by spilling his seed on the ground.. He didn't want to fulfil the Levirate Law and have a child in his brothers name to cut him out of an inheritance..It wasn't condemning masturbation but GREED.

God intended sexuality to between a married man and woman so to have it alone is not what he intended.
I think he understands our condition in life, but it is not something that is healthy.
Also - what leads up to it? If it is something like porn then there is a clear problem.
Also - what Zorcan said.

Entertaining sinful thoughts is immoral. If a person is imagining that they are having sex outside of a future marriage then in their heart they are saying that they don't want to wait and trust that God will provide them with a spouse so that they can have sex God's way.
