sugar can be actively transported . If you give sugar via soil, bacteria and fungi population is rising sharply. And digest the roots with extracellular protease enzymes. But, if you give sugar via leaves ( addition fungicide and antibiotic), answer is yes.

If you add sugar to the soil, your orange tree will probably die. Adding sugar makes the soil hypertonic for the tree's roots. The roots might actually lose water to the soil, and they would definitely have more difficulty getting water from the soil because the concentration gradient has changed. Don't try this.

If you feed cow with sugar and coffee powder can you milch coffee?.Impossible!!.
Try to replace the sour variety with a new sapling or grafting .
