Okay, From what ive heard, if you OWN something...JUST OWNING IT.

You still have to pay tax. Like a car or a house,

You own it, you already paid tax on it when you bought it, this seems so illogical and injust.

is this true, wtf.

Now, I know MOST things the government does can be explained with atleast a small amout of logic behind it.

I win the lottery and get a lump sum, I pay ALL the income tax on it (How is it 50%) That should be it, I should never have to deal with the govt again if I quit my job and just live off my money, I don't earn anymore money, so why should I have to pay tax. (Except for sales tax)

well of course it pays for stuff, its tax,

I mean where the hell does the govt get off sending me a bill for doing absolutely nothing

Okay, I Think some people are misunderstanding me.

I got my paycheck, the govt took out there chunk, beacuse I live hear and I earned money and the govt gets a cut of that earned money.

With the money from my check I by a Car. when I buy this car I pay sales tax on it. again, reasonable.

BUT, Its when Ive already bought this car and paid sales tax on it. just the mere act of owning it and I have to pay tax.

A similar story I can think of is that guy who sold the home run ball he caught beacuse he didint think he could afford the tax on it. Why does that cost tax to just OWN IT. When he sells it he will have to pay income tax, its just no right.

The tax from the money when he sells it is okay, but from when he owns it and its collectors value increases, why does he have to pay taxes there.

Are you saying that you want to benefit from this country but you don’t want to pay for it? You mentioned 3 different kinds of taxes; income, sales, property that have nothing to do with each other.
Federal income taxes have nothing to do with what you are talking about. The other 2 kinds are levied by the state; your state could have an income tax also.
I think you state has 3 different kinds of taxes so that everyone pays something. Retired people who wouldn’t pay income taxes still have to pay property and sales taxes. Rich people would pay all 3 kinds and kids would at least pay sales taxes.
For most of this country’s history property taxes funded government, its only in the last 75 years or so that the income tax has become the real predictor or wealth.

So much of the property tax goes for funding local government and schools.
The cost of property taxes through a few decades can exceed the cost of what you originaly paid for your home!
I dont like it but if you dont pay the tax your home gets sold to the highest bidder

For real property, you can't move it, it is relatively easy to appraise and taxation of it has been a source of revenue for centuries. It is the vehicle that generates funds to pay a part of your share of running the local government functions, including the ones you may not use directly (like schools or the jail) but society in general benefits from.

If you want to pick something else that will generate a steady stream of revenue for local governments, find a large number of like minded registered voters and go for it.

The government is not "doing absolutely nothing." You have a lot to learn about taxes and life in general.

There is no logic, but as property owners we are stuck. I pay close to $900 in school taxes and I haven't had children in the school system in years.
