Extremely unlikely. On that day, well I hope that I'll be, err perhaps I had better not type that in here.
The physical destruction of the world is most likely to occur when the Sun swells to 'red giant' status. We'll all be dead and gone long before that happens - think in billions of years from now.

No. It will end shortly before that at 12:12:12 pm, on December 12, 2012. I base that on the 12:12:12, 12/12/12 date and time.
About as rational a basis as any other prediction of the end of the world.
And at least some people, in the proper time zones will have had lunch or be having it.

I'll probably be Christmas shopping on that day!
I really doubt some ancient Mayan culture could predict the end of the world. But if I had to speculate, maybe a large asteroid, the size of Antarctica, will hit the Earth in the Pacific Ocean, destroying all life on Earth instantly.

The date you spoke of is like the many, many countless other attempts to predict the end of the world.
Yet, we are entering into the time known as the great tribulation. And it is written that if God did not shorten the time in which he sent his Son there would be no flesh saved.
God is going to pour out his judgment upon the face of the earth. It will be so bad that many will seek to find death, but God won't allow for it. These are they who openly defy the Almighty.
I believe the time of God's judgment is near, even at the door. We are past the time of wars and rumors of wars spoken of in Matt. 24.
Yet, though this will be a time of great tribulation and many, many people will die, the end is no near.
Though it will be the end of an age, it isn't the end of the world. Jesus will come back to the earth and set up his earthly kingdom. It will be a time of great peace and prosperity.
It says that even the lion and the lamb will graze side by side in the field.
Temptation will be removed from off the face of the earth for 1000 years. It is what is more commonly called the Millennium period.

It is the Friday before Christmas, and if it snows in Manhattan, where my wife and I live, on lower 5th Avenue, I am not leaving our house. The 'world' is not going to end, the promise of which is yet more Fundy nonsense, but only the brave will be venturing forth in the city even if the sky is blue and bright.

I believe that the date time and moment the world ends is strictly up to God. Remember He said that no man will know the exact moment. Me, at 11:11 am, if I am still here at what I am doing, I will be off work getting ready for the second half of my shift.

Who comes up with these dates?
I have no idea what I'll be doing. That's five years away. I'll probably be running my kids from place to place. I don't think I'll stop and see if anything will happen. If it does, it does. But it won't happen on that day. I can almost guarantee you. The scripture says that no man knows.

Yes, but which time zone will it be based on.
I would prefer it to happen after lunch if possible.
It sucks when you have to face the end of the world on an empty stomach.
