My husband doesn't say this, but I have heard others say this and I tell them "If it is your own child it is not baby-sitting, it is called being a parent."

When my ex couldnt find work, he called it staying at home to babysit, although I didnt find it that way considering they were his own kids, but my husband now.. He loves staying home with the kids. Its not a chore or a job. Its equal parental responsibilites. Sure I stay home and raise the children, but what happen for the mothers who want a break? I am so thankful my dh loves the children enough not to call it babysitting..

Well, it's just an alibi for men who is avoiding from going out with inviting people and friends! therefore they have to say "I have to babysit"
Actually this is the usual term known to man with respect to caring kids at home even to his own kids.

I say it, mostly because I think the word "parenting" is just politically correct drive, I don't think its demeaning at all, but all the women around me start whining when I say "Im baby sitting this weekend". I probably do it just to see their overall reactions also. I am the main provider so, so at times it does feel like Im babysitting, because even though i have a great relationship with my kids, im not sure of all the routines that go on, as im not around as much

I never realized it before but now that you mention it your are right. When my children were little my husband did say he was baby sitting. When I read your question I was reminded of an incident that happened while my husband and brother were "baby sitting" my daughter and my niece. My sister and I had gone shopping and when we returned home we found the two little ones playing in the toilet water. They were soaked and water was everywhere. It seems to me that neither one was "baby sitting" nor watching the kids.

That's what I say . I don't mean anything by it, we share the role equally. In fact, she goes out more than I do ! It's no different to most duties, they are all role biased. Like it's weird when the woman picks up the dog poo, or mows the lawn. Doesn't mean anything.

in my opinion that is because, many years back, and still in many countries, women are the ones who stay at home to take care of the house and kids, while men are the ones who go out. this is a non-biased opinion, so please dont take me wrong
