They are born year round, if you are looking for kittens I am sure your local animal rescue service/ or shelter would appreciate you adopting one from them. You could be saving their life. Be sure they have been fully screened for illness and check them out at your vet upon arrival. My two cats are adopted and I truly feel they appreciate my efforts in adopting them. Good Luck and enjoy your new friend(s)

The biggest wave of kittens will come in the spring. The shelter people I know say that the period for kitten birth seems to be extending from both ends (spring and fall).

It's really better to just find the kitten you want when you are ready. Very young kittens are very vulnerable to health problems and at four or five months of age are usually doing very well. That's not to late to socialize them and have a great cat in your future.

most are born summer and fall.. this is because most owners keep the cats in more in the winter so you wont find too many spring kittens ... they start letting them out in the spring so litters are born in summer..

the youngest you can get is 8 weeks.. there should be hundreds available now..

check your local shelter (SPCA) first.. as a non-profit these animals will be the best value (best selection too because you can see many kittens from many litters - and different ages too) in the long run they are CHEAPER than FREE because they will have been vet checked, vaccinated, dewormed etc.. (which costs the shelter less than it would cost you on your own with a 'free' kitten) PLUS the shelter will have more accurate information and be more honest than a person who is just trying to get rid of a kittten...

if you have young kids DO NOT get a tiny kitten - kittens are VERY claw agressive and will hurt a kid - a kid can easily hurt or kill a kitten... bad mix.. get an older cat who is more settled... you can try them out to see who likes kids and who doesnt...

Based on my experience, there's also a crop of kittens in the fall. Last fall I found a kitten under the shed and tried to find a no kill shelter to take it with no success as they already had too many to take in another. Several of the people I talked to told me this was a normal event this time of year.

So, now I have a sweet little kitty of my own!

Our cats have their birthdays in January, May, June, September and October. So.... no. They can be born any time of the year that the female cycles into season and is mated.

Not necessarily. We've seen them born all times of the year. Most of our litters have actually been summer births (August), and some prematurely because of the intense heat.

(BTW - don't flip out about having my cats spayed and neutered. We are on a farm with a constant rotation of drop offs and wilds that we rescue, tame enough to adopt out or keep ourselves, and always spay and neuter when we get them to the point we can. It just sometimes takes a litter or two before we can catch them, or they come pregnant. )
