SOme people love them - they have their advantages - they dont absorb things like bed bugs, fleas or anything like that because they are usually closed cell foam -they are very durable because it is just a block of foam, they are somewhat impervios to liquids, probably more sanitary - hence their use in hospitals etc. - they are unbelievably heavy - foam is REALLY heavy - impossible to move if you are small build - I prefer a good coil - pillow top such as a Sterns & Foster OR Serta Discovery - you can usually find a $4000 mattress at department store outlets stores for $400-1100. That is where I bought 2 - Im hard to satisfy on the road or vacationing because once you own a really good mattress - you will never go back & then you realize how bad all the hotel mattresses are in the world ..prison beds ..

They can be pretty durable, but I personally don't like the way they feel.

I also remember that they can absorb things like flea bomb poisons, and be very toxic to use after that.

I used foam mattresses for about 15 years because they were cheap...when I finally popped for a real mattress, it was like heaven and I will never, ever, use a foam mattress again.

It depends on the quality of ma tress. Low density foams are no good as they get squeezed in no time. Higher the density of the foam better it is. Low density foams may cause spine problems.

Hello,

4lb to 5lb density foam mattresses can last for 10 - 20 years. Cleanliness is an issue with a bed that you use every night for that length of time, so keep it clean and dry. You can use a waterproof mattress protector with a thin polyurethane backing:

Good foam mattresses are the best available beds for reducing pressure points and providing exellent support:

I don't know if they're better or more durable than the standard mattress but I do know I feel too hot sleeping on one.
