I am considering joining the Air Force. Before I do, I need to know from people who are there, whether or not you think this is a good move. I just don't want to feel like I've wasted 4 years of my life, doing something that will not benefit me in the long run.

First of all, it seems like the USAF is mostly for people seeking a technical career. I want a degree in English and I am minoring in film. I know the Air Force will pay 100% for my education and also that they will give me money when I leave if I sign up for the GI bill. I need to know what field pays well when you leave and is in high demand and what jobs are good for women to succeed at after leaving, if you are only there for a short period of time. I may stay longer if I like it, Most people seem to enjoy it and benefit from it alot. I am currently 24, so when I get out, I'll be 28. Most people go straight out of highschool. Do you think this may be for me? I was going for financial and educational reasons.

Your motivation for enlistment is wrong, no matter what specialty you choose, you will not be happy. Go to college instead.

If you choose a career in the Air Force you can pursue a degree
through the Community College of the Air Force in your off duty time. Depending if you stay in long enough in what ever in any AFSC(air force specialty code). The rules for the Montgomery GI bill have tightened somewhat, but you may be able to use it to meet your goals. I used my GI bill to finish and get my degree in aircraft maintenance.

you join ANY Branch of the military to serve your country. anything else, like financial aid and training, is gravy.

If you aren't enlisting with that reason in your top 2, you are enlisting for the wrong reason and will be miserable.

Well, when I graduate this year, I am going into the Air Force as an Interpreter and Translator. I am also going for financial reasons. But I think the Air Force will find something to accomadate your major you choose.

Good Luck!
