When we build them, they are laid out so that the Airline sets up the seats the way they want. So depends on who you fly.

Not neccessarly more leg room,, Many people think the 747-400 is an older aircraft when in fact there are some 747,s newer than the 777. the 747 is still on the on the production line as well,, It is one of boeings largest sellers ever...
The leg room will depend on the airline you are flying. They have differnt number of seats on a plane than others and may give you another few inches of leg room,
Another factor to look for and you will have to do it online is your airlines pitch of the seats, is it 31 ,32 etc.
Now the bigger of the two planes is still the 747 and yes you will have more room to get up and walk around..
It really is going to depend on the airline you are flying. period.. some ailines have tv, some have films , some have music and games some dont. Research each airlines seat configuration.

ALOPILOT above me is absolutely correct and he stole the words right out of my mouth. South African Airways for example has really cramped 747 economy class, while Virgin is quite a lot better. Same with the 777 and different airlines that operate it.
However if you are flying a 747, check if the upstairs part is economy class, like some airlines offer. If it is then take it. There are only two emergency exits upstairs so that limits the ammount of passengers (I think to 60, but I stand corrected). In that case you will have plenty of leg room.
Best thing to do really would just be to contact the airline you plan to fly with and ask them yourself which of their aircraft is configured with more leg room. Enjoy the flight!

Really it depends on the configuration set up by the airline. In general the 777 will have better leg room because they are newer aircraft and have more comfortable layouts and newer seats. However, a new 747 can be very comfortable indeed. The latest model, the 747-8 is very luxurious compared to older aircraft.

I've never been on a 747, buit recently was sentenced to 9 hours in 777 economy class.
You're right a Singapore 777 seat is 2 " wider than an Alitalia seat.

The legroom all depends on what the airline has asked for as it's interior configuration. I have seen 747 "cattle cars" and other versions that have lots of leg room. I would suggest asking the airline. The first class and business class areas have more room than economy class.

[FACT]
747 Economy Class VS 777 Economy Class
The 747 has more leg room because it is an older aircraft.
The 777 has minimal legroom, just like every other new aircraft. However, thanks to technology and some nerds at boeing, they played with the seat's position to make you feel even more comfortable than in the seat of a 747. You feel that there is more space.---PROVEN---
Also, they played with the wideness of the fuselage to make it feel bigger than that of a 747.
(It is wider at eye-level contrary to the boeing 747 which is wider at shoulder level)
They have also toyed with the lights, curves of the storage bins and placed the shadows strategically to make you feel the cabin is bigger than that of a 747. ---PROVEN---

The amount of legroom you have is not dependant on what type of airplane you are flying on... it depends entriely on what the airline wants it to be... Therefore, there is no way to tell by aircraft type alone what type of leg room will be available... check seatguru.com for more information on this sort of thing...

It really depends on the airline's layout.
Check out SeatGuru, or even the airline's website's seat map/layout page for more information.
