If you leave early to go some place, you get all the green lights. If you leave late, you catch all the red ones. They're laughing, you just can't hear them.

I work in an office and if I am 2 minutes from meeting my deadline, it never fails, the copy machine jams, the stapler jams, and the fax machine jams. No, they simply do their job. Usually when you are in a "hurry" you drive over the speed limit and often recklessly, endangering the lives of others. Traffic lights are often timed to a set speed. So, if the speed limit is thirty and you are doing 55 because little jimmy has a play date, you will be stopped at more red lights.
The route I take to work has lights timed to 30 MPH. It is my daily amusement watching all the mini van maniacs and vroom vroom SUV drivers race by at double the speed limit, only to be sitting at the next light as those of us who do the speed limit get to the lights just as it turns green...
