I thought it was your "grab a granny" that was a bit of a tight wad. Turns out it's YOU!!!!. My advice is that you should amend your bad behaviour. Off with you now forth with. Get her something natural yet sophisticated from the body shop. Don't be SUCH A MEAN OLD CODGER .

You know, I agree with you. I would be so happy you bought them from a charity shop. But not all women are ungrateful. Maybe she was in a bad mood or something or maybe wanted something more personal.

When you say "her" I am assuming this is your girlfriend/wife. She is probably upset because it is such an impersonal gift. Where is the romance? The pampering that women love? Why don't you try to make up for it by buying her a certificate to get a massage, or at least a pedicure! Geeze...cushion covers?!?!

Were they nice cushion covers?
I don't really care if stuff's from the charity shop, why not help the world when spoiling yourself? Isn't it WAY more selfish to insist on buying all this sweatshop labour stuff new?
And I like cushion covers, 'cuz I like cushions... cosy, comfy, squshy cushions :D

Always ask her what she wants.
Sometimes I get mad at my husband, not because he didn't try, but because I needed something else much more. The emerald bracelet I got last year doesn't help the fact that I desperately needed jeans. Still do.
Every woman is completely different, so ask her what she wants and be willing to get it. Some women like frivolous expensive trinkets, others like practical stuff. So just ask.

It gets difficult as people get older, I just give my brother a card for his birthday, can never think what to buy him, as for my parents, I take them out for a meal if I can afford it, or last year I threw a party at my house because my mum reach the age of seventy. How about buying a gift token for a show, take him out for a meal, depends on how much you like to spend, but you could buy him a tank ride, or a Hot Air Balloon ride. Just a few ideas, or you can also fall back on the classic gifts for men, socks, shirts, body sprays.

OMG! That present would nearly be as bad as the time my Dad bought my Mum a new iron for Christmas! LOL! I would like to add that he has more than made up for such a goof since! Last Christmas he bought he a gorgeous diamond tennis bracelet to match the 2 carat diamond ring he bought her for her birthday! Lucky Mummy!

You spoiled her didn't you? Now, you can't afford to buy her the good stuff anymore and it's down to the charity shop right? Next you'll be giving her a new vacuum cleaner from Wal-Mart!

maybe she's used to getting more expensive gifts...and she wasn't expecting you to take something from the charity box...I know I would be pissed because I am spoiled by my boyfriend and I don't expect anything less then expensive
