Most Self proclaimed Christians don't really know what the word means themselves. But the word means being Christ-like. But the truth is anyone can call themselves a christian. But then difference is the fruit they bear. What kind of person are there. Christians from a biblical perspective are suppose to be a light to the world, they are suppose to practice what they preach. But the problem is the doctrines of some churches within Christianity. For example " Once saved always saved". in others do whatever you want and you are still going to heaven because you are saved by grace. Now that's absurd. Most of the people you have been in contact have more than likely taken up this doctrine. God bless.

A true Christian lives their life as jesus did which is a far cry from the people you have met. I'm soory you have had a bad experience but just to let you know many religions like Mormons,Cathlics, and Jehovah Witness call themselves christians even though they do not truely following Jesus' teachings. Maybe you should get a bible just to read knowledge is power so stop going by what has happened to you and find out the facts and I hope you meet true christians who are truely Godly people. May God bless you.

Only God knows our hearts, and only He knows whether or not the people you refer to have sincerely put their faith in Christ as his Lord and Savior. Jesus warned, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged" (Matthew 7:1).
From what you say, however, these people are at best an inconsistent Christian—and at worst, not a Christian at all(Child molesters are not Christians!!). Jesus commands those of us who are His disciples to love people, not to treat them as if they were below us or are worthless. He said, "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35). The Bible also says, "Let your gentleness be evident to all" (Philippians 4:5). Needless to say, a sincere Christian's life should also be marked by honesty and integrity.
Don't let the hypocrisy of one person keep you from Christ. People may disappoint you—but Christ never will. Look at Him as He is revealed in the pages of the New Testament—and when you do, you will realize that He was the perfect example of love and self-sacrifice. The reason is because He was more than just another religious leader. He was God in human flesh, sent from heaven to save us from our sins by His death on the cross.
In other words, take this person's life as a challenge—a challenge for you to discover what a true Christian really is. Then by faith give your life to Jesus, and let Him begin to transform you from within by His Spirit. No, Christians aren't perfect—and we won't be until we get to heaven. But until then, He is with us and helps us every step of the way.

Christians are people who have accepted Jesus Christ as their savior and endeavor to become more and more like him.
But just because a person claims he or she is a Christian doesn't necessarily mean that person truly is. And Christians are still sinners; people susceptible to doing bad things. While our faith absolves us of our sin, it doesn't mean that we don't stop sinning.
And as far as judging goes, it shouldn't really happen. True Christians know that they have no right or authority to judge. But more often than not, people will confuse our condemnation of an action or way of life with the condemnation of a person or persons, the latter of which is principally uncharacteristic of a Christian.

There are two types of Christians. Those who really are and those who think they are. The difference is not necessarily on the outside, but on the inside. The real ones have been forgiven of God and are given a new spiritual life in Christ. God knows them. They may continue to make mistakes and fall. They may hurt others, but this is against their new nature and they will hate it. But the false Christians are worse, because they deceive others by using the label of Christ without recognizing His authority over their lives. The bible refers to the two types as wheat and the tares. Wheat is of God's planting. The tares look like wheat but are useless. These will be judged more severely. Observe their lives and judge for yourself who is who. Remember, labels are deceptive. Jesus said, by their works you shall know them.
Blessings,
Jack

I am a Christian. I love God. I have a personal relationship with Jesus.
Being a Christian means I try to treat others as I want to be treated. That is what Jesus taught.
The people who you meet who you think are Christians are not.
The most important thing that God teaches is to treat others as you want to be treated.
If you know your spelling is poor, why not use "Spell check"?
It's right there on your screen.
Just because people will know what you're saying is no excuse for poor grammar, Spelling, etc.
When you apply for a job, no one is going to hire you if you cannot construct a proper sentence and spell correctly.

Many will say they are christian because they live where most of the people claim that religion as theirs. For so many it is just something to say and has no real meaning.
Europe and the US almost demand that you claim to be christian. if you do not claim another. seems like being an atheist does not fit in their social structure.
Me for instance people ask where I am from and immediately say oh you are a christian. No I am not and I am an atheist.

YOU..... Slam and Defame..... " Christians "..... Without Any Definition.... or Stating YOUR .... Wrong Idea of what A Christian.... IS !
See.... by your OWN Admission... YOU HATE GOD... and ... Christians !
.... I.... have..... GOOD NEWS... / .... BAD NEWS..... Just for YOU!
GOOD NEWS....
(Joh 3:16) For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
(Joh 3:17) For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.
BAD NEWS......
(Joh 3:18) He who believes on Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.
(Joh 3:19) And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil.
(Joh 3:20) For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
FINAL NEWS......
(Luk 13:1) And some were present at the same time reporting to Him of the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
(Luk 13:2) And answering, Jesus said to them, Do you suppose that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans because they suffered such things?
(Luk 13:3) I tell you, No. But unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
(Luk 13:4) Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were sinners above all men who lived in Jerusalem?
(Luk 13:5) I tell you, No. But unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
Thanks for Asking ! RR

What it means to be a Christian is to serve God with your whole heart and dedicate your life to serving Him. You are correct there are a lot of people out there that profess Christianity and then act like what you said. But you are correct that not all are like that. God calls us to live as holy of a life as we can and that isn't lying, doing drugs or molesting children. Those people will answer for their deeds. The Bible says we will answer for every idle word that comes from our mouth. Those people that profess Christianity and do those things will also be responsible for the souls that they influence such as yourself. Being a Christian means you always have someone to lean on in times of trouble, someone to calm the storms of life. You have a constant companion in Christ Jesus that loves you enough to die for you! He doesn't promise the road will always be smooth and covered with rose petals but He does promise to never leave us nor forsake us. He is ever present and always there all we have to do is whisper His name.
