Read Bill Weise's book "23 Minutes in Hell". He tells us that what happens in Hell is much worse than eye gouging.
You can see/read his testimony over on http://www.SpiritLessons.com
Hell is a real place. Jesus taught more on Hell than He did about life in Heaven.
What did Jesus say about Hades-Sheol?
Luk 16:24 "And he cried out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.'
Luk 16:27 "And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father's house--
Luk 16:28 for I have five brothers--in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
--
From this passage we learn:
Hades-Sheol is hot. There is no water. You feel pain and the same emotions you do when you are alive.
You are smarter than you were on earth. The rich man was able to recognize Abraham (whom he had never seen).
You remember your past deeds (he remembered Lazarus).
You remember your family and know that they are going to Hades-Sheol unless they heed the warning.

No way... ALL the eye gouging ought to be done here on this Earth...!!! It includes body mutilation and even castration!!! Sweet Jesus said so!
Matthew 18:8-9 (NIV) If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.
THERE WILL BE MANY HANDICAPPED CHRISTIANS IN HEAVEN!!!

There are many misconceptions about hell as a place of unimaginable torture. But it's not the torture in the sense that we know. Hell has been compared to in the Bible as a "lake of fire," but it doesn't necessarily mean that hell... is a lake of fire.
Hell is merely a place where God does not exist. And God made everything (including us and angels) so that we could not bear to be without God (even if some of us ignore him, but he's still around since he's omnipresent-except for hell). So... being without God is like being completely alone for all eternity. Since people are gregarious by nature, this concept is disconcerting even on its own. But the pain of being without God is much, much more intense than mere physical pain.

The majority makes the teachings of Christ of no effect by man-made traditions.
One man-made tradition is that "good people go to heaven when they die and bad people go to hell when they die."
This is taught generation after generation, parent to child, in hopes of scaring someone into being good. But, it doesn't work, does it?
Isn't it time we transcended the fables of childhood?
No one has gone to heaven except the Son of man (John 3:13).
And hell?

Where are the people who have died?
They are in their graves!
"Marvel not at this, for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation" (John 5:28-29).
The King James "damnation" is from the Greek word "krisis" meaning separating and contesting.
The "contesting" takes place in a second Physical life after the 1000 years. The vast majority of mankind is not being called now.
Some of the ones who are "contesting" in the future will still not repent. And they will cease to exist. The ones who do repent will be given eternal life. The promise from God through Christ is eternal life, not heaven.
People in this life who have already repented will be given bodies that do not die (1 Corinthians 15:52-54).
