We want to paint the babies new room, but my husband has beenworking a lot lately and to get it done in time I would have to do a lot of it, but is there a safe paint to use, or maybe just keeping the area well ventilated and air circulating?

You're putting it on the walls not eating it. Just open some widows, put a fan in the room and paint your little heart out. :-)

Look for the more environmentally friendly ones. They often contain fewer harmful chemicals.

One of these is a formula called milk paint, it comes in a bag and you mix it yourself with water. It contains little more than pigment. It was used long ago before such "sophisticated" and dangerous elements were added to paint.

You can rest assured that paint doesn't contain lead anymore.

Latex over oil usually, due to fumes and solvents that accompany oil based paint.

Use a mask and keep the area ventilated, take frequent breaks.

Before doing any painting I would see if a friend can help you They could paint for you or with you. If you are working together you will get done faster, get you back to fresher air sooner, as well as the friend being there if you get in any sort of trouble.

I don't know how far along you are, but it will be important to make sure the room is freed of any sort of fumes before your new little occupant moves in. This is another reason to choose the more environmentally friendly paint as well. To do this, make sure after painting is done, wash over the walls a few days later with Murphy's Oil Soap and warm water, as well as ventilating the room well, LONG before the baby comes.

I painted a couple of rooms while pregnant and it was fine... Latex paint dries quickly and there isn't a very strong smell or fumes. I kept a window open and wore a mask as a precaution (you can find one in any hardware store). You can always take breaks once in a while to get some fresh air. If you live in a cooler part of the country, I'd recommend getting this done soon before the cold weather sets in and it's more difficult to keep the room ventilated.

Your fine to paint as you said just keep the windows open and a fan on to pull out the fumes!! They also make paint with little smell, can't remember the names but the store can let you know!!

alonz_oh only old paint that maybe on your walls contain lead, not in the paint you buy now a days.. They stopped using lead based paint in residential housing after 1978!!

Check with your local stores. There is a new paint that has no odor and is also safe for your babies. Always try to keep the area as ventilated as possible.
