Can I still develop the chicken pox after hanging around someone 7 days ago (last saturday) that developed chicken pox a few days ago?

P.S. I have had the chicken pox once in my life (3 years ago) but it was not bad it was a small dose.

I know you can get them more than once.

Hi Melissa
Yup - I'm sorry to say that you can still develop it and the incubation period is usually about a week after you are exposed to it.

If you've had it before then you will have some protection but its still possible to develop it again.

Cross your fingers !!

Reinfection is very rare.

More that one website I visited states that a prior infection means an adult no longer needs to consider getting a chicken pox vaccine. One website outright states that you will not catch the disease a second time.

Adults who Have had chicken pox may later develop "Shingles", which is a second manifestation of the original virus...
