The viewing distance will be 1.9-3 meters my budget at max is £690ish and my min is £500.

There are a few things to take into consideration though:
-Well-Known retailer preferred
-I don't want to risk a Plasma because I watch alot of channels with logos.
-Will a PS3 look better with a (1080p 5000:1 contrast 500cd/m) or a (720p 8000:1 contrast 550cd/m brightness)

1080p is better of course, and the EYE can tell the difference between the two, but at that viewing distance of around 6 feet, you honestly aren't going to be seeing much of a difference, if anything at all. 720p will be cheaper. However, usually, the 1080p LCD screens are newer and have more ports and options with them, better screen ratio and refresh rate, etc.

You need the 1080p TV. It means higher resolution and it will make everything look sharper.

at first, i thought it was 1080 but apparently according to my friend and this other guy in electronics department, the naked eye can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080, so i would get the 720.
