I have been a vegetarian for 20 years and never taken iron supplements, if you need iron there are plently of other foods that contain it such as spinich and mustard greens. Thats not the case, you shouldn't feel like you have to take a bunch of pills if you can help it

No. A lot of people have ideas about vegetarianism, but they just don't know what they are talking about. I've been a veggie for 23 years, and have never taken iron tablets.

Iron deficiency has got nothing to do with being veggie or not. Some people fix iron no problem, other's don't. If your body fixed it when you ate meat, it will still do so now. Don't worry about it.

Take care

If you have a concern about iron you might want to go to a doctor and have your blood tested to see what your iron count is right now. If it's normal, you have nothing to worry about and a reference point should it ever become a problem. You'll be able to pinpoint what sent it awry should it ever be deficient after that point.

I am one of those people who cannot take extra iron as my body readily absorbs it from the food I eat, and I am a vegan.
Too much iron in the body can be harmful so don't just go taking iron because someone said you would have to......

You probably don't need to supplement iron as long as you're eating healthy in general. Beans usually have a pretty good iron content, for example. Some cereals are fortified with iron & lots of dark green leafy veggies have some. So does chocolate, btw!

No. You could if you feel like you need it. There are a lot of vitamins for vegetarians. However the best sources of iron are found in vegetables like spinach. There is nothing in meat you need that you can't replace in other ways.

Nope, the only reason you should take iron vitamins is if your doctor says you should. As long as you are making sure you get enough protein and iron, you're good. =)

No-lots of plant foods are high in iron, and lots of other foods are supplemented. People are ignorant and fear change.
