So my 2002 Mustang Gt is leaking Some form of a liquid. It seems to be clear and feels like a lubricant kinda. sometimes it has dark specs in it but i think that might just be the dirt when it falls onto the ground. Anyone know if this is Axle oil. Im going to take it in on monday but i just wanted to see if anyone knows what this is. The car drives fine, and ive been driving it, but as little as i can though. but do u tink this is hurting the car if i keep driving it this weekend till i can get it fixed?

thanks

the synthetic rear end fluid Ford uses can be pretty clear still after a few years of use.. but I agree with Nitroyes and say it's a pinion seal leaking...

Figure a seal, the piece that attaches the driveshaft to the pinion and the nut (for the life of me, can't remember the name of it right now?!?!?!?!?!)

if its on the rear it could be axle oil but it should be a little dirty looking ,most of the time its darker in color,if its grease it will get on the brake shoes and make you have less stopping power,it could also be brake fluid, check the level in the master cylinder, and make sure its not brake fluid,it also has a oily feel to it,it may not hurt to drive it,id be careful though,if you hear any noises from it park it,its not worth tearing the vehicle up for, good luck with it.

Where is the leak? If it is at the rear wheel, it could be gear oil. It could also be brake fluid. Brake fluid is thinner and has a very different smell. If it is brake fluid,do not drive the car,get it fixed.

it sounds like you have a brake problem.
check your master cylinder to see if you have lost brake fluid.
the rear differential will use 75 or 80 w/90 gear oil and will
be alot thicker and be darker in color.
if the leak is at the wheels then it is the brake fluid and you need to get this fixed ASAP or you may get into a situation
you would rather not get into.

If its axle oil near the wheel, you can expect to buy an axle. It could be brake fluid, usually brake fluid resivor would be low.

You don't say if it's front or back. I would suspect it's brake fluid . You should be able to tell by smelling it and comparing it to your master cylinder. Usually oil is a dark color.
