to jgrace11 no one was hurt in the incident, just the cars. The driver came up on the pace car too quickly and tried to slow down , he locked up the front brakes and because he was in the turn the 31* of banking caused him to slide slightly down the track and he hit the pace car in the back enough to spin it onto the apron.

That was a pretty nasty crash. IIRC, the people in the back seat of the pace car were killed.
Edit - Are you sure? I thought that's what brought about the early stages of ARCA's Hardcore Motorsports Safety Initiative. Maybe there was another one where the passenger(s) were killed, but I really do remember reading something about that (which is also why there are no longer passengers in pace cars in any of the major stock-car divisions in the US).
