I've been using Cymbalta for almost three months now. It doesn't really help with anxiety at all. In fact it seems worse with Cymbalta. Dr. has me on three different meds for sleep, anxiety, etc., but they don't really do much of anything. What is a good med for a person who has anxiety as their major symptom, and depresson as a secondary symptom?

If you disapprove of taking these kinds of meds, please save your opinion for someone else.

I've been on these kinds of meds for over 10 years. Zoloft for 5 and Effexor for 5, and now am on Cymbalta. The other two helped with anxiety, but Cymbalta seems increase it. I was hoping to hear about something different from these three. Thank you.

Talk to your doctor about your reaction to your medications. It can sometimes take a while before the right medication or combination of medications can be found. Everyone is different, so what works for one doesn't work the same way for another. If this is a primary care care doc [internist, family practice] he/she may not have a lot of experience with treatment-resistant problems, so you may need to see a psychiatrist, who will have more experience with anti-anxyolitics and anti-depressants. Don't give up too easily. The important thing is to keep your doctor up-to-date on how you are feeling.

You can find lots of reliable info re medications, etc on WebMD.com.

Paxil is good to combat both, but it can cause some unpleasant side effects:

SIDE EFFECTS: The most commonly noted side effects associated with paroxetine are anxiety, sweating, nausea, decreased appetite, somnolence (sleepiness), dizziness, insomnia, and male sexual disturbances. Dry mouth occurs in about 18% of patients taking paroxetine.

Also, it could cause weight gain.

It usually says on the package to talk to your doctor if you have anxiety, aggression, etc.

Talk to your doctor and see if they can switch you to something that will combat both depression and anxiety rather than 3 different pills.

But please don't go off the meds yourself. It can cause serious side effects.

The meds may not be working for you, so see if you can get switched to another one.
