Duh, there are some sarcastic people out there. I KNOW they are little bags with tea leaves in them. I want to know what the actual bag is made out of!

Tea bag paper is related to paper found in milk and coffee filters. It is made with a blend of wood and vegetable fibers. The vegetable fiber is bleached pulp abaca hemp, a small plantation tree grown for the fiber, mostly in the Philippines and Colombia. Heat-sealed tea bag paper usually has a heat-sealable thermoplastic such as PVC or polypropylene, as a component fiber on inner side of the teabag surface.

I am a former chef and have travelled the world and found that most like the other have said are a paper material, here in Canada we have one made by Red Rose and they come in a muslin/cheescloth bag.

I am not sure why people would say nylon, then the tea would have an off taste (nylon is made from petrolem and would melt in hot water), I prefer loose tea, as it is whole leaf not pieces and stems, plus it has a more distinct flavour you can make your own, I get some cheescloth from my dollar discount store, I then buy a nice Indian, Ceylon or other loose tea, blend them and make 1 teaspoon bags, tie them with string, you would be surprise how much the difference, and they are fresher tasting. I am a tea fanatic and have tried alot.

I have about 100 roles of tea-bag paper in my garage!!! This is going to sound weird - but my partner works for a well known teabag manufacturer. The reels of paper don't go right the way to empty, so they are left with what looks like a kitchen roll size of tea paper. Looks just like a kitchen roll. It is GREAT! We use it to clean the car, the kitchen benches, floors, windows, spillages you name it! Move away Bounty - its all about tea paper! Doesn't fall apart, or break up. I don't know what it is made from, but it is fab!
