I am a meat eater, but I am also all for animal rights and against cruelty to animals. Recently (I dont know how old this really is) I read about some people from PETA who took baby animals from a no kill shelter, killed them, and dumped them in a dumpster... this sickened me and now I am completely anti-PETA, so as usual when I decide to hate someone I did my research and saw PETA is launching a campaign against KFC for the way the chicken farms that they use treat the chickens. If there is anyone else out there who knows about this, can you please tell me why they are so anti KFC and not Anti-tyson.. who is actually the sole provider of KFC chicken?

PETA can turn the most reasonable person into an animal mass murderer by their extreme behavior. I don't know about this seal thing you're talking about (and quite honestly even though I hate PETA, I doubt they would do that) but PETA is just a little to loonie to earn my respect. When they start supporting humans to the level that they support animals, I will start to cut them some slack.

You can say that you like some animals, but if you eat meat, you do NOT believe in animal rights.

You obviously know nothing of the pet overpopulation problem that is affecting the entire country. MILLIONS of animals that will never find homes are born EVERY YEAR.
Do you think that we can keep them all caged up or let them go into the forest. Only a fool would consider such a thing.

Would you prefer that those animals end up in a shelter that would "euthanize" them with a shotgun or throw them in a gas chamber with a leak so that they die a slow and agonizing death. I myself prefer that they die a painless death by overdosing on anesthetics. Why don't you get a job at a shelter and then think before you spout off about something you know nothing about.

How can you convince yourself that PeTA isn't anti-Tyson?
They are obviously against all use of animals for food.
They can get more done if they focus on the the KFC, which is the largest purchaser of Tyson chickens. They are pissed at KFC for not pushing Tyson to change how things operate and their demands are reasonable. They aren't asking KFC to stop selling chicken flesh.

Sorry if this response doesn't sound too pleasant, but just because an organization has different views than your own doesn't mean that they are extreme. PeTA is extreme because they offend people and seem to think that it will help change some people's minds if not everyone's. I agree with all of their goals but that doesn't mean that I would give them a dime if I was a billionaire. Their campaign against KFC is a very good thing and they have been the cause of good changes for food-animals in the past.

" am a meat eater, but I am also all for animal rights and against cruelty to animals"

I'm sorry to tell you but no matter how you look at this it cannot be true. If you eat meat, you support and pay for cruelty.

what is more cruel than unncessarily killing and caging an animal ??

I'm not saying you are wrong to eat meat, but you need to face facts and admit you cannot claim to be against cruelty at the same time as munching your way through a steak.

PETA are anti-KFC because they focus on high-profile companies and most KFC patrons do not know Tyson supply the chicken. KFC, but ultimately the meat-eaters, have the power to control Tyson. Instead, they choose to support them by spending money there - KFC and Tyson see it as endorsment of thier actions.

I'd question how you can be for animal rights but still eat them, but I used to have a similar bent when I was omnivore, and that question has been posed to you. Suffice to say I did have the epiphany that part of favoring animal rights is favoring their right not to be eaten. There really is no way to make humane meat; it can only be done less cruelly.

Now, for organizations that don't use the idiotic tactics that PETA does, check out Humane Society of the U.S. (www.hsus.org), Compassion Over Killing (www.cok.net), VIVA! (www.vivausa.org), Mercy for Animals (www.mercyforanimals.org) or Farm Sanctuary (www.farmsanctuary.org). All these organizations do good work and get their message across without pissing anyone off--except maybe the meat, dairy, and egg industries.

While some of the above organizations have performed rescues of farm animals, the animals are NOT released into the wild, but taken to a sanctuary. I volunteer with COK regularly, and most of what I do is helping mail information to people who request it and handing out vegetarian restaurant guides on the streets of DC.

I used to do protests in front of KFC, and someone asked why we were protesting them instead of one of the many places in the area that serve chicken. Well, it's because one of the biggest purchasers of dead chickens is KFC; their sheer size makes them a target. It's why Morgan Spurlock went after McDeathburger instead of any other fast-food company in "Super Size Me."

First of all, there is a lot of anti-peta propaganda out there. Most of it is rumour -- such as the one you mentioned -- it's just silly to think that people from peta would do this and that the peta headquarters had actually planned and sanctoined this etc.

Anyone can join peta as a member then go do some crazy things saying they are "from peta" or "with peta", but does peta actually go around doing all these wild and crazy things I keep hearing about? I've never seen any of these rumours confirmed. In my town all the peta members to is dress up in costumes and hand out fliers. I'm certain that a lot of people do some wild and crazy things and claim to be from peta, but are they really? If all these wild and crazy rumours were true, then people from peta would be dragged off to jail... yet this hasn't happened that I know of.

Whatever you can do to help animals is great. It would be nice, but you don't have to be veg to help animals. PETA still campaigns against KFC because KFC refuses to have it's suppliers do anything to help improve the current conditions where chickens are subjected to horrendous animal cruelty - most of the time purposely inflicted by the workers. I have heard horrific stores of workers pulling the heads off live chickens as they go by, they are thrown against the wall, they are stomped on, they have stuff rubbed in their eyes that burn, they are blown up and there are many times where some will escape in the parking lot where they are unloaded and they are run over - whether accidental or on purpose. I have some videos of undercover investigations at chicken slaughterhouses on my website at http://maketheconnection.co.nr See my "Videos" page. PETA is concerned with cruelty to chickens wherever it is taking place. I'm not an expert, but I believe that they majority of chickens come from Tyson. Be sure to see their website at http://kfccruelty.com I hope I've been helpful.

PETA is a disgrace to animal rights. They use terroristic actions and then turn around, and as you say, euthanize animals from shelters. I know for a fact that they were caught doing it in New Orleans after Katrina. In fact, a member on here said she saw it herself when she volunteering down there. They want to bring all of the attention and focus on themselves. I agree with Blue Sea they will go and raid mink farms and then the animals die anyways from exposure. There has to be more effective ways to deal with the fur industry then doing that.

Actually, if you think about it that is how 28 Days Later began in the first part of the movie.

I am sure there are plenty of good organizations out there that could use supporting that do not purport themselves like PETA does. I would look locally and then go from there.

As far ad you being a meat eater, I wouldn't sweat it. Don't let people try to call you a hypocrit because of it. As long as you are doing what you feel is right then it is!

as far as I know KFC raises chickens in rather inhumane ways, more so than most companies. the animals are Hooke's up to machines and tube feed them. they never have a chance to live. If I were you, only eat free range meat if you want to support animal rights.

PETA kills 2/3 of the animals they take into their shelters.

They are targeting KFC because they are the nation's largest purchaser of chicken, so targeting them does the most good in their opinion. If they were protesting beef, they would target McDonald's since they are the largest purchaser of beef.

I completely understand what you are saying. However, where did you get this baby animal killing story? It might be fake.
I am a veg. I am also appaled by Tyson. But if you think about it if we dont eat KFC we dont keep Tyson in business...
